Last Veteran of the War of 1812, Hiram James Cronk. I found this profile on the last veteran of the War of 1812 by researching military uniforms of the War of 1812. Then, I came across a photo of the last known soldier of the War of 1812, Hiram James Cronk and looked him up on WikiTree. Next, I found that his profile was very shy of information. So, I started adding to the profile. Well, the last known survivor of any war should be that of  "RECOGNITION" so to speak, so I added what I could find. That's where I need HELP from anyone that might add to this profile making it WikiTree worthy for the last known soldier of the WAR OF 1812. Can You Help? The death of the last known surviving veteran of any war should be recognised, which prompts the question, is there a category for the last known survivors of all wars? or (The Last Man Standing)

Add a notable sticker.  Good luck with it!  :)

(I'd help if I could, but I'm no good with American research.  I barely pass doing Australian research when it steps into in-law territory past a couple of twigs.)
Melanie, thank you for your input.  I never thought about adding a Notable Sticker. That's why I ask for HELP. I also need extra eyes.

Kenneth

Actually, I meant to put the notable sticker {{Notables Sticker}} in the profile.  But adding the tag to your post was good, too.  :)

Although, it's called the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson defeated the English in the Battle of New Orleans early in 1815.
Melanie, Thank you .

I added the Sticker to his profile.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the war had ended before that battle but word of that did not reach them in time.  A lot of interesting aspects of that...

I love the 1959 song though... "In 1814 we took a little trip..."
I recently read a very interesting book twice which is titled "Andrew Jackson and the Battle of New Orleans," by Brian Kilmeade.
Yes the documents had been signed byt word hadn't reached New Orleans i time, but the British continued attacking American assets in the Gulf of Mexico even after their defeat at New Orleans.

Santino, Thank you for your contribution.

Thanks for sharing this article. It took me a minute, but the article references an uncle who died in 1777 at the Battle of Bennington:

"Hiram joined the Army at age 14, enlisting with his father and two brothers. His father, James, had previously served in the Revolutionary War; his Uncle Jacob had been killed at the Battle of Bennington in 1777 at Walloomsac, N.Y."

I believe that Jacob could be my ancestor, [[Cronkhite-34|Jacob  Cronkhite (1746-1777)]], but as I explored Hiram's family, I didn't see any connections. Do either of you have any more info?

Edited to add: I'm not 100% convinced that my Jacob actually died at Bennington, as there's several Jacob Cronkhites listed in the 1790 census for NY and two different "Jacob Cronkhite" listed as dead/captured at Bennington. I would really like definitive information either way, not sure if I'll get it but here's hoping.laugh

R Prior, Hope this was an inspiration to help you and others to remember a Veteran. Hope you can add to Hiram's profile.

Thank You
There appears to be some conflicting info on his father's profile, as far as death info. Definitely could use some help with sources and clarification of DOB, too.
