Hi Andrew, filled in her father's baptism and marriage, and put in correct categories for him here. Will leave the US categories to you. Don't know where the funky ''middle name'' came from, must be a nickname he acquired in the US, not at all French sounding. The last record found for Joseph Ranger and his wife Marguerite lalonde in this province is in 1837, funeral of a child. After that, zip.
Just so you know, there is no such thing as a ''middle name'' in French, they are all given names, and the Jr/Sr usage doesn't exist either, except sometimes in modern times people imitating anglos.
Take a look at Québécois project page, scroll down and you will see a table with when which place name applies, ie Canada Nouvelle-France, Québec Province, Bas-Canada, Canada (in order.)
On categories, don't use the higher level categories for places for profiles.
