My grandfather Rev. James Elwood Gibbs, Sr. was a private in the U.S. Army. He was drafted in the Korean War February 8, 1951. I don’t have his military info such as his service #/dog tag info. He was wounded by grenade shrapnel and was a machine gunner. Returned per newspaper article February 9, 1953. I need help and resource info on how to find out what his military company division was and how to find his military medal info. Thank you

Contact the National Personnel Records Center. You may be able to get his service record, and you may also be able to get a set of his medals issued to you. I was able to do this for my father several years ago.

There was a major fire there many years ago that may complicate things, but it may still be possible.

Wikipedia has a good article that should help
