My name is Kendall Bancroft Somerby. I was named after a famous ancestor, George Bancroft the Historian, who was said to be my Father's Great Great Uncle. I know George had several siblings but I can't find how they relate to me, until I had my DNA tested. As it turns out my DNA showed Italian / Sardinian heritage. Of all of Aaron's children only one was married to an Italian / Sardian that I am aware of and that was Jane Putman Bancroft who married Donato Gherardi. I can't find any Gherardi / Somerby off-springs /connections. My Father resembled George Bancroft and my brother has a striking resemblance to George. There is absolutely no doubt that we are Bancroft's. The first time Bancroft to my knowledge was used in the Somerby name was when my Grandfather was born and he was named Rufus Bancroft Somerby. His parents where Charles W. Somerby who was born in Minnesota in 1901 and he passed away in California in 1944 and Elizabeth Somerby, I have no idea what Elizabeth's maiden name was but she was born aprox. 1902. Rufus had a sister Named Jane Somerby.
On the MyHeritage website People I share DNA with include ancestor names such as king, Chandler, Davis, Robertson, Damanti to say the least.
If anyone can fill in the missing pieces I sure wold appreciate it very much.
Why did Charles W. Somerby and Elizabeth Name Rufus Bancroft? And what is Elizabeth's maiden name? Was she a Bancroft decendant?
