My father Stanley John Bancroft (Nee Ryan) was adopted and I don't yet know his biological father's name. A Gedmatch One to One comparison test has proved his adoptive father Tom Bancroft was not his biological father  regards

Did you ever find the answer you were looking for?

Some of the Bancroft's left England in 1633 and they ended up in Massachusetts and some migrated to Canada and Australia and other places I am sure.

What did your DNA results tell you, did it compare with possible cousins?

I did mine through myheritage.com

Hi Kendall, My father was born a Ryan illegitimately and was adopted by a Bancroft .  I live in Australia and if you have any questions about the Bancroft's here I suggest you contact Heather Bancroft who has just written a book about them.

It's just a name, at least now you know who you are and that's a good thing.

There certainly are some noteworthy Bancroft's such as George the historian and Bancroft Gherardi the Admiral of the Navy and Hugh Bancroft who inherited the Dow Jones and Wall Street Journal, but what's new to write about?

I followed my Bancroft ancestry back to about the 12th century.

Good for Heather for writing a book but there have been a lot of books written about the Bancroft's.  I hope she finds some success.
