Italian Roots is an Official Project

I should have announced this more than a week ago - but the flu had the upper hand in our household of late.

I am very pleased to share with everyone that Italian Roots is no longer a Free Space Project - we have on Official Project page, and soon we will be able to offer badges to our members.

If you have already signaled your interest in joining, please check that you are listed on the Member section of the page and add some details of your interest or research focus there.  If you aren't on the list -- add yourself!

If you have ideas for improvement of our project page, please let us know here, or on our Google+ Community  (see link for that on our project page).

Please help spread the word, too!  I've posted on the Wikitree Genealogists page on FB as well as Italian Genealogy page.

We've got a lot to do to become as vital a resource as some of the other longstanding projects - we hope to learn from them and become one of the many gems of wikitree.

Any questions -- don't hesitate to reach out!

That's great, Michael!
Congratulations!
Thank you, Michael.  I put my name in for research on my husband's family. -NGP
Thank you Michael! Most of the research and profiles  I am working on are Italian. I am also learning the language, but the records I am finding so far are in English. Familysearch.org has  Italian civil records and some baptismal records back to 1806, but I am hoping to find records from the 1700s and 1600s someday soon!

So, I have what may be a silly question ... we're supposed to put the template on the profiles of people with Italian roots.  What's the definition of 'Italian roots'?  Is it just folks born in Italy or does it include descendants?  I'm a quarter Italian and I suppose I may qualify ... but my granddaughter is 1/16th and her kids will be 1/32nd (assuming she doesn't marry an Italian!!) ... does it continue forever or is there a cut off point?  Thanks.

With the understanding that a person may have multiple ethnic roots - the Italian roots template (which also adds the category Italian Roots) signifies Italian heritage in whole or in part, ranging from those who are "full" Italian and may never even have left Italy -- to anyone who traces an ancestry there.  There is no cut off in this regard.  We want to celebrate anyone tracing a connection back to Italy.

We are now issuing badges for project members -- please make sure your name is on our project page member list, and add a little information about your interest or focus.

Grazie, Michael!

I volunteer to be the Italian Roots Project Library Information Resource person. I am an experienced librarian and I  spend most of my time tracing Italian ancestors.

I have solicited Resources from wikitree members on G2G, and am busy adding my own list of Italian online resources to the Italian Roots Project page.

Wonderful!  Please add a note to that effect on the members list.  :)

and thank you!
Your welcome! I will be adding more resources as  time goes  on, but I am very busy this week adding One Name Studies  projects for each of my Italian surnames. :). I would like to make each of these Italian One Name Studies I am setting up sub-projects of Italian Roots and I am encouraging people to add the Italian Roots  template to every profile in each project.

Ciao!
