Hi Connectors! The March Connectors Challenge starts March 1st

image

This is a monthly challenge that is open to everyone. The goal is to connect unconnected branches to the main tree by connecting to already existing profiles. WikiTree currently has 4,283,277 profiles that are disconnected from the Global Family Tree. The Connectors Project invites you to help us make a dent in this number by taking part in our monthly Connectors Challenge. Can you help us in our mission to connect all of the unconnected profiles on WikiTree into the Global Family Tree?

Summary of Rules:

1. Pick an existing profile (created before this month’s challenge began) that is not currently connected to the Global Family Tree.

2.  Add any first degree relative to that profile (a parent, spouse, child, or sibling). Continue adding relatives until you reach a profile that is already connected to the Global Family Tree. Please be aware that may take up to 24 hours for the tree to update and show your connections.  Only the connection to the main tree counts!

3.  If you would like to participate in this month's challenge, simply click the ANSWER this post button (not the comment link) and tell us you are participating (comments will be hidden). Then head over to The Connectors Challenge Page and familiarize yourself with the challenge rules.

Hi,

Is there some method to find unconnected profiles superimposed over a Map.

I am interested in the county of Cheshire in England, UK.

But i have a very limited knowledge of only part of that county, about 60% of my ancestors originate from a small area of Cheshire.

Previous 'connections' have been mainly with members of my own family, these were mainly rural areas with farming families who intermarried and have lots of connections with one another. If only i could reduce the number of potential connections by looking at those people in specific geographical areas.

I have tried the county list but it is too big to sort through.

Allan, not that I know of but WT+ could probably narrow down by village location.

Here is the list of unconnected Cheshire profiles. When you click on the numbers in the centuries, the list with all the unconnected profiles of that century opens up in a new window.

Hello Jelena,

Thank you for your reply, the 'list' you link to is the one which i refer to in my question. I find it very difficult to use.

To avoid any warning messages i do not look at any pre-1700 profiles but that still leaves about 9000 profiles to scroll thru. Some of the surnames are repeated over and over again.

And then there are messages from various 'challenges' which happened over a year ago.

I did try scrolling and came a across one profile to connect. But i then decided just to concentrate on surnames which i know are in my family and i was able to complete another 5 connections.

If you were to look at a map of Cheshire with those 5 families on, then they would all be included in a circle of 10 miles diameter.

My question was can i get a map of Cheshire with the 'unconnected' profiles superimposed over it, a bit like the App - Ancestor Explorer created by Chase Ashley.

Maybe this list helps you a bit more.

Ugh!  I missed my opportunity to use the tracker, but I DID connect a branch from my watchlist. I'm new to the challenge -- is it possible still to get credit by answering the G2G?  here is my work:

My existing Ryan-2412 and his family were unconnected.

I found Joanna Evely-77 who was connected.

Thomas Ryan-2412 >> Thomas Ryan-2396 (his son) >> Anna Ryan-2400 (his daughter) >> Helen Coffey-6192 (her daughter) >> Lawrence Davis-117561 (her husband) >> Naomi Moores-1096 (his mother) >> Joanna Evely-77 (her mother)

Joy - the tracker is the official way to keep score.  I've sent you a message to your email. smiley

In this connection I first connected two unconnected branches with each other and then the bigger one with the Big Tree.

I started at unconnected Harold J Duclos, added his wife, who I could connect to her mother Elisabeth (Schwingle) Cano. Her little unconnected branch went to her grandfather Conrad Schwingel, whose father Adam Schwingel is connected.

I always love to see where you are finding the connections.

That mother was created 14 years ago! Great job!

After sourcing a marriage for unconnected Margaret Jane Maxwell Maxwell-14660 to William James Olney I sourced a birth record for their son James Hamilton Olney Olney-1189. James was connected but had no mother on his profile. I added Margaret Jane Olney (nee Maxwell) as mother so she should be connected tomorrowsmiley

Yay, I managed to get one this month! My starting profile was William Barr Scandrett (1914-1983). I found his maternal grandmother Mahala (Redman) Barr (1837-1913) here on WT and created Mahala's husband and their daughter, and voilà - William connects!

Count me in for sure. I took a peek at the German side, will there be actual pages associated with the person named, or will we need to create them? Presently clicking on it the name it only gives me a blank page?
