2023 March Connectors' Monthly Challenge

Hi Connectors! The March Connectors Challenge is up and running. :D

This is a monthly challenge and open to everyone. The goal is to connect parents, create profiles or propose merges, etc. to connect unconnected branches to the main tree. Scoring is of branches connected to the tree, not individual profiles. So whether a branch consists of two people or ninety-two people, it still counts as ONE connection. Unlike the Connect-a-Thon, only actual connections made are counted, not the number of profiles created to get to a connection.

The Connector’s Challenge Rules:

 1. Pick an existing profile (created before this month’s challenge began) that is not currently connected to the Global Family Tree. (Hint: If you are a member of the Connectors Project, you’ll see a yellow puzzle piece icon next to that person’s name at the top of their profile if they aren’t connected.)

2. Add a profile for any first degree relative for that profile (a parent, spouse, child, or sibling). Continue adding first degree relatives until you run into a profile that is already connected to the Global Family Tree that you can attach to. Remember to use good sources to support the creation or connection of every profile you make! Please be aware that it takes 24 hours for the tree to update and show the connection.

3. ANSWER this post. This lets us know that you’re participating in this month’s challenge. It’s easiest for us to track your trail if you post it here, but you can also use the Challenge Tracker. Just be sure you comment “Connected to Smith-000” when you make the connection to the already existing, already connected profile. Replace Smith-000 with the actual profile ID of the starting profile you were trying to connect. And there can be only ONE connection per branch!

4. Remember the tally is not of profiles created (like the Connect-a-Thon) but of actual connections made to the Global Family Tree. You might connect a whole branch of profiles and make 100 new profiles in the process of making a connection, but the connection only counts as 1.

5. If you enjoy challenges, keep in mind that adding good sources to any existing profiles you run into while connecting or fixing errors on those existing profiles might count towards the Sourcerers or Data Doctors Challenges.

6. Let us know if you’d like a Connector’s Badge for participating. That will also make you a part of our project and we’d love to have you! Stats are kept and updated on the Connectors Challenge page. The link to the tracker will follow.

Count me in again this month. I didn't get a badge for last month (my first month). Did I do anything wrong?
All my queries were ignored last month when I signed up so I stopped lodging them.  The Challenge Tracker board only  included the ones using that system even though you claim it is easier if for you if we post it here and no one responded to me so no idea if even being counted.
Yes I ask to join one month last year and was also ignored.

Then I answered a question to join a challenge for for the sources challenge and got a rude answer for someone and never even added my name .  I just did join the civil war Challenge people are very nice.

I count the ones that are manually listed as well : )

I'm unfortunately not a leader, so I'm unable to award badges (I apologize, I need to amend that in the post).

If you post on this thread below, Abby should award the badge to you. : )

Join the Connectors

Sorry for any confusion!

Here's my first two connections for March (a connection where two unconnected branches get connected).

I started with unconnected Eugene Miller Howerdd and connected him with his also unconnected mother Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Haver aka Howerdd. Then I went on to Mary's sister-in-law Mary Ann (Haver) Shackouls. I created her son David Birchett Shackouls, his wife Etta Bernice (Poole) Shackouls, her father Cleveland E Poole and his father Robert Lavender Poole. Robert's father Isaac Mitchell Pool is already connected.

Next connection, again with two branches:

I started with unconnected Martha Mnichowska, added her husband Michael Kubiak, I added Mike's father Albert and his brother Stanley to get to already existing, but not yet connected Amelia (Kubiak) Farrington. Amelia is Stanley's daughter. Her husband Frank Farrington also already existed, so I added his father Jefferson, who I could connect to his father Perry Farrington. Perry is connected to the Big Tree.

I connected unconnected James Mastern with his connected daughter Maria (Mastern) North aka Fellows.

Unconnected German Notable Gustav Kirchhoff got his daughter Paula, who was the second wife of German geologist Wilhelm von Branca. His first wife Catharina (Helmholtz) Branco is a daughter of German scientist Hermann von Helmholtz who is connected to the Big Tree

Unconnected Elmer Otto Schmidt got his wife Charilla (DeLong) Schmidt. Her father is Frederick F DeLong, Fred's father is John DeLon. John's father Gideon DeLong is connected to the Big Tree.

Unconnected William Koerner got his wife. Minnie's father is connected.

Unlinked Frank D. Jackson got his son. Frank Hiram got his wife, who got her father, whose father is connected.

Unlinked Norman Arthur Erbe got his wife. She got her father and grandfather, who got his sister. Julia got her son, who got his wife whose father is connected.

Unlinked Alvernia Afflerbach got her mother whose father is connected. And while looking for a connection, I also connected Alvernia's father, who also was in an unconnected branch.

So again there are two connections in one.

Unconnected Ralph Harold Curtis found his connected father Warren Widmer Curtis. 3 more profiles connected.

Unconnected Neville Coutts got his wife Edna Jordan. She got her father, whose father is connected.

You've probably seen your results by now. It takes an overnight system update before new connections show.

Happy connecting!

I will try to make some connections for this month.

eta: off to an odd start when 1st one I selected was a lone orphan (Tatlock-278) that turned out to be a duplicate for a person (Tatlock-180) on my watchlist. After merge it said it did not qualify on the tracker but one unconnected profile gone anyway.

  1. Sarah Jackson  connected to parents Jackson-11982 and Speer-1523
  2. Joshua Stonewall Jackson connected to parents Jackson-22039 and Miles-12061
  3. Cassius Frank Akey added his mother and then her mother, which I could connect to her father DeWitt-529

Late doing anything this month, but I'm going to try for at least one connection.

  1. A former student's spouse's grandmother, Eunice Bogue is now connected to her ancestor Ebenezer Booge. (Not a close relation of mine, these are the Connecticut Bogues rather than the North Carolina Bogues, but it was fun adding them still).
  2. J. Howard Pew, Sun Oil tycoon and philanthropist, is now connected to his great-grandfather Enoch Anderson, who fought in the American Revolution. (The connection goes through his mother, Mary Anderson Pew, whose namesake dorm I lived in for four years at Grove City College.)

I thought I replied already but can't find my post. I've already completed one connection and have it recorded in the tracker (Karneboge-11).

I also just connected Voorhis David Demarest (Demarest-911) by adding his father then connecting to his grandfather.
