Connecting profile to categories

Hello Eitan, it can only be done by yourself or someone on your trust list.

When you click on Edit on your own profile, you can add categories at the top of your biography above the headline biography.

You can enter each in a new line:

[[Category: Rock Musicians]]
[[Category: Music Producers]]

and so on.

But sort out before. You should not enter a category which is already given indirectly with another one.

Rock Musicians is in Musicians. So you should not enter Musicians. Canada, Musicians is also in Musicians. Singers-Songwriters is in Singers and in Songwriters, so you shold not enter Singers or Songwriters additional. And so on …

Hello, Siegfried! Thank you so much, this is very helpful! If I understand correctly that means for example by adding my profile to the Singers and the Songwriters categories, it will appear automatically under the Singer-Songwriters category as well?
Of course, the categories are intended for famous or professional people meeting the criteria :-)
Yes some of the categories are meant for notable persons, (those with a Wikipedia entry.)
In other words, use the most specific category possible. There’s also a tool in the toolbar for adding categories.
Hello Eitan, to clarify.

When you add your profile to the Singers and to the Songwriters, nothing more happens.

On the other way: When you add your profile to Singers-Songwriters, then nothing more happens directly. but implicit you say: It belongs also indirectly to Singers and to Songwriters.

In WikiTree you should avoid unnecessary categorization.

As Jim and Natalie mention, some categories are for famous people (with Wikipedia articles in various languages or similar).

For famous people (notables):

Canada, Musicians; Ontario, Musicians
Thank you for clarifying Siegfried!
