Help us choose and improve next week's 'Sounds of the Sixties' Featured Connections

The 1960s put out some great music, like that of Burt Bacharach, who passed away in 2023. We're looking at our connections to him in the Connection Finder as well as other musicians and songwriters who were popular during the 1960s.

Here's who we're getting started on:

Who else should we feature? We have room for 12 notables. We can't feature everyone who is nominated, but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

Our choice of features will depend partly on the notable person's CC7, i.e. their connection count within seven degrees. The more connections they have, the more likely it is for all WikiTree members to find a close and interesting connection to them. So, if you nominate someone, please help grow their CC7.

Suggestions are more likely to be considered if you provide a link to the person on WikiTree, some information about who they were or why you're nominating them, and if their profile is in good condition with a connection, image, and well-written and well-sourced biography.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested. Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us choose themes for 2024 Connection Finder themes here.

I grew up listening to Peter, Paul and Mary. How about Mary Travers?

by David Randall G2G6 Pilot (361k points)
Who doesn't know the song "Puff the Magic Dragon"?

I came in to suggest Peter, Paul and Mary! I used to joke that you're not truly an activist until you've sung "If I Had a Hammer" with Peter, Paul and Mary at a rally. (I know it's a not really a thing of this millennium. If you're under 40 imagine I'm talking about singing "I Can't Keep Quiet" with MILCK.)

Peter Yarrow is still living, but has a notable profile on WikiTree that really needs some work on connections.

Paul Stookey, also still living, was featured last summer separately from his bandmates and currently has 551 connections.

and

Mary Travers, who you linked and who died in 2009, also has very few connections.

All three have good profiles, though.

Thanks, David and Regan.

Again from Australia: I'd like to suggest (Little Pattie) Pattie Amphlett - famous for singing to the troops at Nui Dat when she was just 17 years old. If we had a better pic, that would be great. I'm sure we can improve the CC7, which is currently 195.

Has WT started featuring people who aren't connected (Donovan and Cooke)?
by Melissa Arjona G2G6 Mach 5 (57.3k points)

Unconnected people can be nominated for a theme, but they will not (usually) be chosen without that Connection to the main Tree.

The idea behind nominating even those not yet connected is to give anyone interested a chance to see if that Connection can be found before the following week.

I've seen unconnected people nominated before, just not used as the starting points for a theme.

I think the only time I've seen an unconnected person actually used in featured connections is Sor Juana (a couple of years ago).
Some recent(ish) themes where some of those in Abby's post were not Connected at the time of posting --

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1667328/help-improve-weeks-connection-finder-profiles-world-heroes
On that one is listed "Susan Ahn Cuddy, first Asian American woman to join the US Navy (unconnected)" - Susan, her two Notable brothers, and their Notable father were all connected as a result of that nomination.  (I know of that one because I manage most of those profiles.  I'm sure there are other themes where the same has "let's get this person Connected" flurry has occurred.)

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1658701/improve-weeks-connection-finder-profiles-political-dynasties

If a person is interesting enough but not yet Connected, Abby will include them for consideration - and the hope that seeing that they need to be Connected might spur on the rest of us to do what we do - Connect folk to the Tree!

Justin Hayward, lead singer and guitarist for the Moody Blues from 1966 until 2018, inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. His parents have Wikitree profiles (Hayward-7558 and Binks-329) and they list a "private son, 1940s." Justin is alive and still going strong, touring solo since the Moody Blues disbanded at the end of 2018.
