Challenge of the week: Improve orphaned profiles

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

Once again, Aleš has come up with something to help us work together on a category of profiles that need our help. This time it's "orphans," i.e. profiles without Profile Managers.

Here is the table of orphaned profiles that could use some TLC.

Here's how to help. On the table, click on a number you see in the "Open" column or the column for the century in which you feel comfortable working, e.g. 1800s or 1900s. It doesn't matter which suggestion row you pick, e.g. "No dates on relatives" or "Father is too young." For this challenge, the individual errors and suggestions are just starting points that lead us to profiles that are likely to need help. When working on an orphaned profile, we don't just address individual suggestions. We look at the whole profile and try to improve everything we can about it before moving on to the next profile.

Will you join us?

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

I chose one at random but was unable to fix. After an hour I gave up. I don't get how "Mother is self" can happen. I normally get a warning if I am about to save an obvious impossibility. I would never click "Save anyway." Wish WT would eliminate this option.

There are situations where children were born earlier than 9 months after a sibling's birth. WT flags them, and you have to over ride the flag every time.

Granted, that is not an impossibility. But if the system can recognize true impossibilities, such as "Mother is self," seems like it could be programmed to suppress the "Save anyway" option. I should at least removed the self mother of this orphan. Will try to find again.

I've used the "save anyway" to allow me to save a large amount of work, then go back and fix the single issue that led to the error message. But you do need to remember to go back and resolve the issue.

But there is a person in my extended family who was born 8 months after a sibling's birth and without the ability to tell the program to ignore it, we would have put in inaccurate information that is proven with a good source.

Maybe an "are you sure" 2 step process, similar to the new Thank You, on the Save Anyway button would help?

I will work on these as time allows me.  I usually do ones in the US, West Coast that have date problems.  Hope that information helps.

This is challenging work! Spent quite some time researching first orphaned profiles I reviewed. Now realize some of the errors are much more difficult than others!
