Challenge of the week: Improve orphaned profiles

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

Once again, Aleš has come up with something to help us work together on a category of profiles that need our help. This time it's "orphans," i.e. profiles without Profile Managers.

Here is the table of orphaned profiles that could use some TLC.

Here's how to help. On the table, click on a number you see in the "Open" column or the column for the century in which you feel comfortable working, e.g. 1800s or 1900s. It doesn't matter which suggestion row you pick, e.g. "No dates on relatives" or "Father is too young." For this challenge, the individual errors and suggestions are just starting points that lead us to profiles that are likely to need help. When working on an orphaned profile, we don't just address individual suggestions. We look at the whole profile and try to improve everything we can about it before moving on to the next profile.

Will you join us?

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

Whoops. Looks like I forgot to post here to signal I'd be participating this week.  Tried to load the tracker this morning for 'User' and kept getting 0 results. Slipped my mind.

Ah well. Glad the edits help a great cause!

Is there any way to open up private profiles that have been orphaned? Today, I was looking at the profile of Joseph Riley (Riley-3188). He has two private sisters who were born in the 1890s and died in the 1960s. As all his other siblings are orphan profiles, I'm assuming that these are as well. I could find out the names of these sisters and add new profiles, but that would be duplication.

Barbara, sorry but your assumption is probably not correct. If the software is working as expected, it should be impossible to orphan profiles which do not have Open privacy.

Hi,

I have been working on several orphaned profiles as time permits for me. One that I worked on yesterday was such a disaster that it took me hours to clean up, and I'm still working on it! Oy vey! Lol. It had a lot of GEDCOM junk in it. I'm happy to help out when I'm able. Hope you're having a great day!
