Hello and welcome to Team Fantastic Firs! It's time to start thinking about the WikiGames! We have three events in the Sourcing Slalom starting Friday, August 25 at 8 am EDT/Noon UTC going into the Cross Country Connecting on Saturday, August 26 at 8am EDT/Noon UTC then the final event of CC7x7 Wall Climb on Sunday, August 27 at 8am EDT/Noon UTC .

Come visit our Team Page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Fantastic_Firs and let us know what you’ll be working on. Or you can start your own thread below by Answering this post. You can give us updates on your progress, ask for and give help, etc. Remember don't start on our 4 Olympians until the start of the CC7x7 wall climb to maximise the gain. Nothing wrong with identifying potential connections beforehand though.

Please consider joining us on the Fantastic Firs Team Discord Channel. It’s a lot of fun to have live conversations going on during these types of events. If you’re not already on the Discord server there are instructions on the help page.

I am looking forward to hanging out with you!

His brother, Arthur, was a Captain in the 2nd Scots Guards during WWI and was killed in action in France in 1915.  He was "assistant director of gymnasia" for the London district until 1912, when he proceeded to the front.

James Harper Orr was in charge of an ambulance convoy with the French forces in the Vosges.  He was presented with La Croix de Guerre for his services.
Very amazing finds ... And this is the first day!
Thank you for all of your work Eric!  That is fantastic!!!

Feel free to also add any links you would like on his free space page (listed in green above)
His brother, Robert Orr's, brother-in-law, Arthur Leslie Bucknall, was an amateur aeronaut who named his balloons after his daughter, Vivienne, and set records for ballooning distances!
That is such a cool interesting find!

If you get a chance, add it to the space page (listed above) because it would be great to add it in his bio.
Added to the research page.  Married in London.

My father-in-law played hockey against Brooks.  He said he was one of the best hockey players he played against.
That is a cool fact Sandy. Great for someone to have a connection to an Olympian.

Robert was born after the 1950 census, so we'll have to look elsewhere to find his parents. We'll also have to tread carefully as there is a possibility that one or both are still living.
From what I saw on Wikipedia it appears that Robert, his brothers, and his father were all hockey players and may also have Wikipedia entries, so that is one place to look.

There is a possible father for him on FamilySearch, showing as deceased with no source. I'm going to look more at that FamilySearch tree because there are some discrepancies (e.g., possible father's brother with last name spelled with two t has different parents on his death record).
Yep and his son were/are hockey players. Runs in the family.
I just added a discussion on his uncle's family search family tree profile, since his uncle is conflated. How dare two guys with the same name be born within 4 years of each other! I will work on cleaning this up on family search.
I have worked on some cleanup on the Family Search tree (think duplicates and conflation!).  I went a way up the tree but the Damm family is pretty big. If you follow Alfred https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9V4X-S1M or Clara back further you will find we get to Switzerland and Germany. On some of the other branches there were other countries as well.

We have two Americans, one Australian, and a Scot. Does anyone have experience with Australian or Scottish research? I suggest we work on all four athletes at the same time to maximize our numbers.

I love the idea of working on all of them.
noun = Scot, not Scott

nationality = Scottish or Scots

:)
I'm good with, personally, starting with James Harper Orr.  My quick look says he had lots of siblings!
Thanks Ros
Keep in mind that the Olympians can not be worked on, in WikiTree, until Sunday. But their FamilySearch/Ancestry/Etc can be reviewed/researched/cleaned up all week long.
I have been working on Brooks in Ancestry and will jump over to FS to update.

I have an Ancestry account and I think a few others do too. Just tell me what to look up. smiley

I also have Ancestry access.
Awesomeness!  We will definitely need your help.
My experience is mainly English records, and to a lesser extent Scottish. I have an Ancestry.co.uk subscription so happy to do 'look-ups' (as well as research), but won't have time to do "prep" work, due to work.
