Hello and welcome to Team Brilliant Birches! It's time to start thinking about the Wiki Games! We have three events in the Sourcing Slalom starting Friday, August 25 at 8am EDT/Noon UTC going into the Cross Country Connecting on Saturday, August 26 at 8am EDT/Noon UTC then the final event of CC7x7 Wall Climb on Sunday, August 27 at 8am EDT/Noon UTC .

Here is the full livecast schedule for the hangouts, every four hours: Space:WikiGames#LiveCast_Schedule

Come visit our Team Page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Brilliant_Birches and let us know what you’ll be working on. Or you can start your own thread below by Answering this post.  You can give us updates on your progress, ask for and give help, etc. Remember don't start on our 4 Olympians until the start of the CC7x7 wall climb to maximise the gain. Nothing wrong with identifying potential connections beforehand though.

Please consider joining us on the  Brilliant Birches Team Discord Channel. It’s a lot of fun to have live conversations going during these types of events.  If you’re not already on the Discord server there are instructions on the help page.

I am looking forward to hanging out with you!

Preparation for event 3:CC7x7 Wall Climb

For those not on Discord, Lemen-157 and I have created a Free Space Page (FSP) for notes about each of the 4 Olympians.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Beatrix_Suzetta_%28Loughran%29_Harvey

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Stuart_Alexander_Black

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Derek_Swithin_Allhusen

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Robert_Michael_Miller

We will use these FSPs to collect information over the coming days to be prepared to just churn out profile creation on Sunday.

Thank you David and whoever else made the Freespace pages for research on those Olympians.
For some reason the Discord channel isn't working for me.

Shame that you cannot get on Discord, however, I endeavour to mirror all strategy to this post so you are not missing out.

Welcome to our Brilliant team. I hope you enjoyed the Sourcing Slalom and are starting to make some progress with Cross-Country Connecting.

I added a father and paternal grandfather. I will keep moving up this line to see if I get a connection.  Discord is not working for me so drop a note here if I am disrupting the plan.
Am working on Katherine O’Meara Miller’s family
I finally hit the big tree.  He is at 73 connections now so I will see what the next update does.

I wanted to work on the English Olympian (as I'm in England) Derek Swithin Allhusen https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allhusen-21 however his profile is locked (green) so I can't edit it to add parents or sources

The lock was until the start of the event. It is now editable.

Derek's great-great uncle, Frederic Buschek Ehrenberg Allhusen served in the British army. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England and was initiated into the Freemasons in 1861 at the Malta Lodge.

When Britain and the United States came close to war, he was deployed to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada in the 1860s, where he married and had a daughter. He died back in England in 1866.

Interesting find today! Black-24775's wife Fookes-179 is a direct descendant of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-531827. I noticed this by seeing her great grandmother titled 'the lady' Emily Elizabeth Fitzhardinge de Berkeley.(Isn't that a mouthful) Berkeley-745. I then traced Emily's direct paternal line, her father the fifth earl of Berkeley, many of these profiles however do need better sourcing :( but alas it continues with many lords up to Berkeley-483, who has a tomb! And then eventually Unknown-531827, I haven't spent much time down her other lines, but they all seem to e members of aristocracy as well!

Also found a rugby player for the all blacks in there, I guess athletics runs in the family haha https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Good-4780
It says he's my 29th g grandfather. LOL!
That's awesome Judy haha!

Beatrix Suzetta (Loughran) Harvey (1900 - 1975)

Beatrix Suzetta Loughran was the only American figure skater to win 3 Olympic medals.

Her first cousin, Charles Loughran O’Connor, married Helen Shinkle Hecht, who was adopted by Frank Henry Hecht and Elizabeth Brewster.

I haven’t created her birth parents yet, but found her birth and baptismal records on Ancestry. When she was born, her parents already had a one-year old daughter they kept. She apparently had a relationship with her biological maternal grandfather as he was mentioned in the society article about the wedding.

Discussions have taken place on Discord regarding our CC7x7 Wall Climb strategy. A key point, which I didn't realise initially, is that only the Olympian with the highest CC7 will be our score for the event. Despite this, we plan to start working on all 4 profiles. See the FSPs linked above for research that was carried out ahead of the start of the WikiGames. As the event progresses, I expect Discord discussions will take place regarding how we should target our efforts to maximise one profile's CC7 to its fullest.

Please can everyone comment on this answer with the profile they plan to start working on at 12:00 UTC on Sunday.

I will be starting on Derek Swithin Allhusen. Hopefully playing to my UK home ground advantage
I will be starting with Bob Miller.  I've added his direct ancestors for 3 generations with no WT connection yet.  I'm sure once we start adding all the children and their spouses, connections to the main tree will be made.
Same here - I'm in England so was planning to do Derek Within Allhusen, however the profile is currently locked and can not be edited to add parents/sources (I just realised that may be intentional so we don't start too early lol)
Yes, they are all locked to stop us, or anyone else randomly, working on them for the next 23 hours.
I am working on Bob Miller
Headed to church now. Got to his great aunt Ellen (Miller) Parrell.  It will be a few hours until I return.  Feel free to take over.

CC7x7 Wall Climb

To summarise my understanding of the rules: The count is new profiles added to existing connections that are within CC7 of the starting Olympian. Remember to be aware that as you get further from the starting profile, you may end up more than 7 connections away.

There are 2 sets of medals for this event:

1) The top 3 Olympians with the highest add count, irrespective of the team they belong to and

2) The top 3 teams with the highest combined add count across all 4 of the team's Olympians.

There will also be a non-medal, special mention of the Olympian that ends up with the highest actual CC7 count, including existing profiles.

As many of of starting Olympians already have family members, there should be plenty of branches to add new leaves to. Hopefully, we won't end up duplicating work. Remember that some research has been done on the Free Space Pages.

For those who can, we will be using Discord to discuss progress and areas of work. I will endeavour to update and check this G2G post too.

Have fun and remember it is the WikiTree that wins.
