Hi Wikitreers,

I have in my antique collection a vintage postcard dated July 6, 1927; postage paid with a 2 cent stamp; however it appears to be post marked July 7, 1927 to a Miss Joe Evans

The front of the vintage post card is titled “Twin Islands, Lake Pocotopaug, East Hampton, Conn

The back of the post card needs collaboration as to the address. Where is this post card addressed to? I need it deciphered.

Possibly reads:

Miss Joe Evans

Baylis Ave & Merriam Rd

Springfield, L I.

Need collaboration deciphering transcribing the note

Appears note reads as follows:

Dated July 6, 1927 (Wednesday the day before was July 5th a Tuesday)

Dear Joe,

This is the scene that is visible from our room. We were real ambitious yesterday morning and ??? to these islands

Love Janet

Who was Miss Joe Evans? Maybe her nickname is Joe for Josephine?

Any collaboration in the genealogy of the origins is appreciated

Thank you

Addendum: Need to find Census of a Joe Evans matching this address, but first need to know what the actual address is? Was it addressed to an addy in Illinois there is no street number but back then most didn’t use a street number

I'm wondering if it could be Merrick Blvd near Springfield Gardens NY (Queens). It's a really long road. And I believe your missing word might be "rowed."

Just a thought...

Thank you,

It appears your correct “Rowed Over” is likely the missing words. The addy I need to find in a census of 1920/1930 to this Evans family group.

Edit: the writer really dropped the loop on the last letter “g” in morning so it overlapped below so it’s part of morning.

They rowed out to the islands! The plural meaning “We” so Janet had someone she rowed out with

I think the trail is leading to this memorial some matches

See Josephine Lillian “Jo” Evans Olsen

Edit the 1910 census shows this group but need her in 1920 census by 1930 she is married see marriage record

1930 census shows father Harvey is widowed

Springfield Blvd on Wikipedia is a match
