John Daniel Bates - Spouse Unknown and Unable to locate

Hello everyone.

I have been researching into my fathers side of the family for many years. Unfortunately, I regularly hit a brick wall with the spouse of my great-great grandfather, John Daniel Bates (b. 30 Sep 1891, d. 18 Jan 1981). I have dug into school records as well as census records and I have not located where her name is mentioned. They spent most of their time in Texas, but did also spend some time in Oklahoma, which is where I found the school records. Anyone have any ideas on where I may be able to look next?

Hi Brad, after a quick search it appears as though John Daniel Bates was married three times.  Since you are interested in Winnie Pearl I will try to figure out which wife of John's was the mother of Winnie to help you in your search.

Thank you for digging in.
From the information on Ancestry and FamilySearch, Winnie Pearl Bates' mother was Docia (or Ledocia) Bates. John married Docia on 26 December 1907 in Lampasas, Texas. They lived in his grandfather's household in 1910. Winnie was born in 1913. Docia passed away before 1920 as John is widowed on the 1920 census. Winnie names one of her daughters Docia after her mother.

I updated John's profile with information regarding his marriages, etc. I hope this helps!
Excellent work Julie!
