Public profile

In my tree I have two people with the privacy set to public. They are not 150y old yet, but will be eventually. The reason I have set them to public is to prevent misinformation. One is constantly listed with his stepfather as his biological. The other has been revealed to have a non biological father listed as her birth father.

Is there any way to keep these profile locked in some way so misinformation isn’t added to them?

If they are green or yellow (the one that allows biography and tree to be seen) locked, then only those on the Trusted List can edit.
Yes, but the rules state that any profile born over 150y ago is to have an open profile. Those 2 green profiles will be 150+ in a few years, meaning they will be under the “open profile” rule.
Once they hit the "must be open" age, you have to trust that those who have signed the Honor Code will not deliberately do damage to the profiles.

If you are concerned that misinformation may be posted, and incorrect family members might be attached, be sure to put as much as you know under a == Research Notes == header beneath the biographical text, and above the == Sources == header.
If you think it needful, a warning regards such can be added to the top of the biography.
I’ve had some difficulties with that approach and it gets very tiring correcting the same mistake over and over (and why I stopped using family search). So many people will ignore facts to have a tree that suits their narrative.

As for the second person in my tree, it gets difficult. All the written documentation supports one man as her father, but we have extensive DNA disproving it. Wikiitree is a genetic tree so the biological father is the correct one here.
This will make a text box where you can explain the situation and point to sources.  This has worked for me

<div style="float:Center; border:3px #000 solid; border-color: red; width:500px; height:auto; margin: auto">

Add your text here

</div><br>
I’ll give it a chance. If it becomes a problem and someone keeps messing up a profile, is there anything one can do? Can you report someone for breach of the honor system?
R.  The Honor Code is what sets WikiTree apart from other sites.  And the response and support you get on G2G is another good feature.

Reporting probems with members is usually the last resort.  But it does happen enough that WikiTree does have a process.

Also, if the profile fits into a Project, it may get addtional protection.

There are stickers, notes and warnings you can add to a profile to help with this as well.

In the end, if you have good sources and sound reasoning on the profile, the WikiTree community will support you in keeping the profile updated properly.
Thank you. Good to know there’s a lot of options in handling these things. I’ve given up on some other sites. Kind of impossible to reason with people who don’t understand the naming standards, link random people and end it all with Odin. Communication and education in a kind and friendly manner is always the best way to approach these things, but once in a while you’ll be met with silence and the profile constantly being changed with bad info.
