Need help translating Swedish birth record on Ancestry

I am pretty sure this is my great-grandmother's birth record. It surprised me because it lists no father, and the family was under the impression that the parents had married in Sweden, had the first child, then migrated to the US.  There are notes written on the entry, but I don't read or speak Swedish so I have no idea what it says or if it gives a clue to the absent father, or any other useful info!

This is just an *extract* (utdrag) from the real book of birth records. These extracts are were sent to the government agency responsible for producing official statistics (SCB).

If the real book of records has been lost in a fire, then these extracts can be useful, but otherwise you are generally better off looking at the real records, both to avoid errors introduced in copying and to get the full entry.

So instead let's find the actual birth record. At the top your image says "extract from the birth book for 1889 for Vesterlösa parish ...". The current spelling for that parish is "Västerlösa" and its archive is at https://sok.riksarkivet.se/arkiv/hv3vyavqQWZTuu1eMvyUeB .

There is a menu where you can choose "C Födelse- och dopböcker" for the birth and baptism records, and a submenu with books for different years. The one you want is C:7 for years 1879 to 1894. You can open up that book and the right spread with Helga Vilhelmina is at pp. 114–115 at  https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0010313_00063  . (It's possible the extract has all of the info in this case, I didn't really check, since I went directly for the real birth record instead of the copy.)

So what does it say?

* Born [February] 8. Baptized [March] 8.
* Helga Wilhelmina, born out of wedlock.
* Mother: Fransdotter, Hilda Sofia, maid, has shown certificate from 24-Oct-1888 for emigrating to N. America. The birth was "here" (in Västerlösa parish)
* Age of mother: 19
* Witnesses/sponsors: Worker Frans Gustaf Karlsson and wife Karolina Persdotter in Danmark nuder Vesterlösa Murgård.
* Her absolution: 10 March.
* The long remark: Since the mother at the time of the birth wasn't registered as living in any parish the child was registered here. The child has been registered at the mother's certificate as moving with her to N. America. Compare what it says in moving out record #1.

This is really interesting. It suggests that she got permission to leave the parish in Oct 1888, presumably about 5 months pregnant, but then.. she didn't actually depart? (I didn't see her listed in the Moving Out records for 1888.) So she stuck around for a couple more months as an ex-parishioner? Daughter Helga Vilhelmina was born in the parish on 8 Feb 1889 and baptised on 8 Mar 1889 (baptism witnessed by the girl's maternal grandparents). 

Helga Vilhelmina didn't stay long in Västerlösa parish. She has an entry in the Moving Out records on 8 Mar 1889 -- on the same day as her baptism -- to go to N. America. (Västerlösa BI:3, Image 66, Page 123, Line 1) Does that date or year jibe with what you've got from stateside records?

I found Hilda Sofia's birth/baptism record on 11 Mar 1869 at the Danmark farm in Västerlösa. (Västerlösa C:6 (1861-1878), Image 51, Page 91)

There's a household exam record at Danmark with her parents Frans Gustaf Carlsson & Carolina Persdotter and six siblings. (Västerlösa AI:18 (1876 - 1880), Image 251, Page 236) And a later one with her parents, seven siblings, and her older sister's son. (Västerlösa AI:19 (1881 - 1885), Image 256, Page 245)

There's also a household record at Södergård with her daughter Helga Vilhelmina (Västerlösa AI:20 (1886-1896), Image 342, Page 332, Line 3). Their neighbors there seem to be a lot of unmarried women with children.

I suspect that the father of Helga Wilhelmina was a son in the household of Göstad Westergård in Örtomta, where Hilda Fransdotter was serving when she got pregnant. It's just circumstantial evidence, I don't think there will be proof on paper.

The son is Johan Wilhelm Andersson, born 24 April 1859. In the record where Hilda is present in the household it is noted that Johan Wilhelm went to America in 1888. In the next record he comes back from America in 1891. In neither case there is the usual reference to the moving in/out book. So it seems he did not request papers to emigrate. I think young men needed permission to emigrate unless they had done their military service. It was quite common that they just left anyway, like Johan Wilhelm seems to have done.

In the second book there is a note that he had been in America since the autumn of 1888. Since he came back without the proper papers he had to advertise in Post och Inrikes Tidningar in September 1891 to ask if there were objections to his freedom to marry.

It also seems that Hilda Sofia lived in Göstad Westergård (aka Sjöängen) with her daughter until she left for America in November 1890 - although they are not listed in the household, just registered "on the parish".

Thank you!  I did find an 1892 Washington Territorial census where Hilda is using the name Ericson and is listed in Walla Walla, Washington with her daughter Helga and son Charles/Carl in the household of E. Ericson who reports to have been born in Sweden around 1862. So far I haven't been able to find a full first name or track him back to Sweden, but I'll keep working at it!
