Where in London is/was Claytons Yard, Rutland Street, Pimlico (1873)

I am lost in London. 'Huwelijksbijlagen' (marriage annexes) for the marriage of [[Morse-Morgan-1|Emily Jane Morse-Morgan]] and [[Duijser-8|Wilhelmus Antonius Johannes Duijser]] give a birth extract, issued Belgravia registrar's office, with an adress for the birth in 1873: Claytons Yard, Rutland Street, Pimlico. I can find a Rutland Street near Belgravia, but that is not Pimlico.

Can someone please untangle me.

Hi W,

I looked into this via Charles Booth's map of London. It was taken in the late 1800s so far better than modern maps. This link should take you to Lupus Street (if not type it the search bar) and from there you can see Rutland Street. Clayton's Yard isn't marked because it's either a small alleyway or it was demolished between 1873 and 1889.

It's definitely the right place though, right by the Pimlico Pier and Belgravia Dock. smiley

Thank you very much. The Rutland Street Google led me to was on the other side of Victoria Station, more like Knightsbridge. It felt wrong. This one's got the right feel, her mother signed with a cross. In combination with the other answer: This is it.

The modern Rutland Street is also on that map! Apparently there was room for two Rutland Streets in London.

EDIT: Here's what the location of the Pimlico Rutland Street looks like now on Google Street View. Not much to look at, but certainly a gap between buildings there.

I looked George Bacon's map published 1888 and it lists two Rutland Streets in the index. Neither of which is the one in Pimlico! The map does show the street and name a couple of buildings in the area, but no sign of the yard.

Thank you. Together with the other answer: look-and-feel are perfect.
