On 11 Jun 2021 GeneJ X wrote on Kingsbury-35:

An article in the Spring 2021 New England Historical and Genealogical Register by Melinde Lutz Byrne and John Edward Hardy proposes that Henry Kingsbury (died after 1636) married (1) in Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk 1613 to Jane Warren [1] (He married (2) Assington, Suffolk, 1621, the widow Margaret Alabaster; they immigrated New England.)

Jane Warren's ancestry is unknown. Byrne and Hardy write that she was, "perhaps a relative of Thomas French Sr.'s mother, Susan Warren," noting that Threlfall was unable to reliably sort the Warrens in surviving records." (There seem to have been a number Warren families early at Stoke by Nayland and nearby Nayland.)[2]

The authors further propose that Henry Kingsbury (b. 1615) is the son of Henry and Jane Kingsbury , and that he married Susan French, bp. 1616, the daughter of Thomas and Susan (Riddesdale) French.

The Kingbury-Warren-Kingsbury theory is not new. Frederick John Kingsbury and Mary Kingsbury Talcott suggested such relationships in 1905. [3]

What is newly presented in this article is the theory and related logical argument that John Gage's first wife, Amy (_____) Gage, was otherwise Amy French, an unrecorded [4] daughter of Thomas and Susan (Riddesdale) French. For this association, in part, authors refer the 1669 sworn testimony of Alexander Sessions,[5]

(quoting) ... deponent further witnesseth that in ye yeere sixty fiue he saw a parcel of Swine by ye river side .... & Goodman Kingsboroughs sonne sayd they were his unkle Gage's hoggs, and Daniel Gage vpon his descritio sayd he thought they were theirs."

Heretofore, this testimony was relied upon to call the the mother of "Kingboroughs sonne," Susannah (Gage) Kingsbury, noting the possibility that "It could also mean ... that Susanna and Amee were sisters."

While the Kingsbury-Warren-Kingsbury-French arguments presented by Byrne and Hardy do not shed light on new records, the arguments provide enhanced logic and reasoning for associating

 • 1. Jane Warren, ancestry unknown, as the first wife (m. 1613) of the elder Henry Kingsbury. This change will shift Henry's date of birth (based on estimated age of first marriage) to a much earlier date.
 • 2. Henry Kingsbury, b. 1615, as the son of Henry and Jane (Warren) Kingsbury. This change will also then associate the elder Henry Kingsbury as the son of James, with a related merge between Kingsbury-35 and Kingsbury-3171--allowing the younger Henry Kingsbury to be properly reported as the grandson mentioned in the will of James Kingsbury.
 • 3. Susan/Susanna/Susannah French, bp. 1616, as wife of Henry Kingsbury, b. 1615, via a merge of Gage-143 into French-813.

The 1622 Will of James Kingsbury calls out his daughter, Sarah, as the wife of John French. Also mentions their son, James French.
By private message this date, profile manager on Susan French (French-813) is a go.

Thank you, Suzane Oliver. You can thank her here, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/French-813#S9

Hoping for some feedback, have drafted a section, "Update as to Origins" for the profile of Henry Kingsbury (d. after 1636), Kingsbury-35.

This would replace the current profile section, "Disputed Origins."

The draft is here (as a free space page): https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Draft_Update_re_Henry_Kingsbury

The current profile is here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kingsbury-35
I'm wishing there was a "best question" star. :-)
Thank you Jillaine.

Hopefully the free-space page/draft helps us get to answers.
