my grt/grndad,john mackay born 22/5/1864,kilmorack,,,was living with his grn/parents in 1871,in beauly -kilmorack,,where were his parents/ were they deceased?  his grn/parents were donald-mckenzie born abt 1811 gairloch -ross and cromarty,married to margaret born abt 1816 gairloch, this maybe margaret mclean?  when and where did they marry and were there children?  regards hfox

Donald McKenzie and Margaret McLean had a daughter, Mary McKenzie who was Christened 26 Feb 1829 at Kilmorack, Inverness-shire, Scotland.

If Margaret was born in 1816, she would have been 13 when this child was born. There are a few couples with these names, so hard to sort out which is which without buying the records.

There may be a way to sort out this puzzle. I only do genealogy for fun and am unwilling to pay for it. But that's just me.

Mary MacKenzie and sister Margaret were born in Lochbroom-Coigach daughters of Isabelle MacKenzie also of Lochbroom Coigach, who was born around 1803.

Have you joined the McKenzie and MacKenzie Genealogy & GEDmatch DNA Matching Group on Facebook where a group of us whose ancestors come from Gairloch, Ross-shire are teasing out who our ancestors are and how we relate. I have MacKays and McLeans from Gairloch. They are hard to sort out as there are few records.

There are several people with those names listed on ScotlandsPeople. Have you checked the records? This may be them. I couldn't find any births recorded for this couple.

Grandchildren often lived with their grandparents, sometime to help them and sometimes while the mother gave birth to a child. I have both of those among my past family.
