Re Visitation of Devon 1623

Hi, I have found a family in the visitation of Devon 1623. The names are too early for any other source.

I found a Wikitree page for the Visitation, and it gives a citation :

St. George, Henry, Samson Lennard, J. Paul Rylands, and Frederic Thomas Colby. ''[[Space:Visitation_of_the_county_of_Dorset%2C_taken_in_the_year_1623| The visitation of the county of Dorset, taken in the year 1623.]]'' (London: Mitchell and Hughes, printers, 1885)

My question is, is this a good enough source? I would like to gradually add the family recorded but can find no other sources.

Thanks, Sue

Good question, Sue! I don't know the answer, sorry, but to help other people think about it here is a direct link to the free-space page:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Visitation_of_the_county_of_Dorset%2C_taken_in_the_year_1623

Families recorded in the Visitations will usually have other records associated with them. Is it a Devon or a Dorset family you are interested in? With the family name we may be able to help further.
The particular family I am interested in is Coryndon / Corndon of Bratton Clovelly.

I would be interested in other sources, I have found none.

Thanks.
Link to the Pedigree in the Visitation of Devon:

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=yale.39002002213917&view=1up&seq=250

The footnote at the bottom of the page tells us that the pedigree is based on the return to the 1620 Visitation by Thomas Coryndon and the rest of the material in the pedigree will therefore be additions by the editor, some of which has come from the Bratton Clovelly registers.
I have searched for the registers, but I suspect they are illegible now. Is the Visitation ok to use or do I have to sight the registers?
Citing the Visitation is fine but it is always best to go back to the primary sources, if available.

Some information on availability of the Bratton Clovelly Registers

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Bratton_Clovelly,_Devon_Genealogy
I have tried Familysearch, but although the dates are covered they are not in there. Another place I found was a Place study for Bratton Clovelly but again dates too early.

I do try for a primary source usually but perhaps in this case it is better to add the people and then another source may become available.

Thanks for your help.

Henry Coryndon will, prob 1619 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D907784 (free to download at moment) It's quite short so you can also view it via an ancestry sharing link

And found a transcript of the will on

http://brattonclovellyops.com/wp/

Some information on a Thomas Corindon in Transactions of the Devonshire Association Vol 27, 1895, p 148 & 161

https://archive.org/details/reportandtransa21artgoog/page/n182/mode/2up?view=theater&q=corindon

and later members of the family in Vol 36, p 295-298

https://archive.org/details/reportandtransa22artgoog/page/n324/mode/2up
It’s a pay site, but FindMyPast has the Bratton Clovelly parish records as both transcripts and images of the originals. There are many Corindons of various spellings back to the 1550s.
Thank you all for your help.

There's loads of information about the Coryndon family at the Devon Archive eg: https://devon-cat.swheritage.org.uk/search/all:all/0_50/all/score_desc/coryndon

It is worth searching with the Corindon spelling as well.

You'll never find sources like this on Familysearch :-)
