Can we have a 'private message' link in the communication preferences area?

Now that we have the new communications box on our profile page, is it possible to have an option to either include or not include a link to the 'private message' for a 'contact me' type option.  New people coming to the site have problems seeing it where it is and may not scroll down to find it?  It seems to me to make sense to have it in a communication preference area.  I am not suggesting moving it from where it is already but making it an optional field in the new area for those Wikitreers who would like it to appear there.

Is this in addition to the one next to the word "communicating" in that section?
Maybe the message link could include the word "communicating" as well as the envelope, so it's more obvious that there is a link there.
That's a simple but likely effective solution and I'll suggest it during next week's tech meeting.
Wow, I never noticed the envelope, clearly others didn't see it either!  Mel's idea is a good one - I was going to suggest making the envelope a much darker font!

Profile page already has a Private Message option and it is just to the right of the Profile Manager's name

Yes I do realise that, I am suggesting there be an 'optional' second place - in the new Communication preferences  area for Wikitree members.  Perhaps next to where it says 'Here is my family tree' - perhaps it could also add somthing like - 'Contact me via private message'  with that being a link like the other one on every profile.  I just think its quite hidden next to the profile name and as I said - you need to scroll down to find it.  Not very intuitive when this section is called communication preferences.  If not, there needs to be something that to direct them to scroll down?

Hmm.  Have any of the Newbies talked to you about their difficulty in locating this whatever it is that you say they cannot easily locate?

None have said a word to me.  I've not seen any g2g posts from a Newbie asking about it.

You'll have to see what WikiTree Tech does laugh if anything

No - its people who haven't yet joined wikitree - but have found me!

Hmm. So they did find you, despite the hurdles they had to jump, so to speak. Seriously, and I do mean seriously, that bodes well for their skills in managing profiles at WT, if they decide to become Profile Managers. Their greatest satisfactions will come from meeting their challenges and coping, just as they did when they sought you out. And navigating WT is challenging for many of us.

But again it is going to be up to WikiTree Tech. Or maybe, I don't know, someone else might know, maybe if you went through that Formal Proposal procedure? Not sure about that, I've seen a few who have done so post at g2g ... It might apply only to Policy rather than to tech matters but again I don't know, not having either to propose

But if you think it is important you could I think contact Chris Whitten? CHANGES per se seem to be in his purview - he's in some sort of engineering I think but he's a moving force in WT - he will most certainly give your suggestion the attention it merits

I have 'find me at Wikitree' all over the net with a link to my profile.  I'm sure there are others who do the same.  The new Communication Preferences area is very informative but people seem to be getting a bit lost if they want to make contact.  A couple of people have said 'I couldn't work out how to contact you on Wikitree'.

Will tag this as 'improvements' I think Chris looks at them. Good idea.
