Receiving email directly rather than from Private Message Wikitree

Question

I ask again because the issue has occurred again.

How can someone respond directly to my email address without using the Private Message link?

Yes, I had a message from this individual  "Sf" before, but I did not open it and I did not respond to it. Both times the person was commenting on a merge proposal. I do not know the person and have not shared my email.

This has happened several times recently from different people - emails arrive that should be Private Message, but are direct. I still receive some the way I expect them (Private Message WikiTree).

Did you send a private messag to this person in the past? Are you both on the trusted list of a profile?

Those are two ways another member could have seen your email address.

Indeed the way Trusted Lists are managed at present does require that email addresses must be revealed. I recently made an improvement request suggesting a way of moving beyond this.

It seems like a simple solution to leave out the email address and instead provide a link to the page where an interested member could send a private message.

Hi Kristina, I’d suggest forwarding the message to the Wikitree team so they can check if there is anything amiss in what you are receiving.

I just sent it to info@wikitree. I hesitate to do that when I think I may get an answer here - I know they are over burdened with requests.
