2013 Deaths in Burlington Ontario

A google search for "Eira Ethel (Morgan) Newton" produces a result with broken link to lifenews.ca

  • Aug 24, 2013 - NEWTON, Eira Ethel (nee Morgan) Passed away peacefully in Burlington on Sunday, August 18, 2013, in her 90th year. A native of BC.

Apparently Legacy.com took over LifeNews.ca and took down the LifeNews website. I contacted Legacy.com; they have no record of this obituary.

A google search using these words in quotes "ethel" "newton" "by her husband George" revealed a different sentence from obituary.

  • Eira is pre- deceased by her husband George and grandson, Geoffrey Newton who sadly passed earlier this year, both on the same day but ...

Obituary for grandson Geoffrey Newton was found here.

I wonder if anyone can find full obituaries for Eira and George?

I need Eira husbands full name, I have found nothing.
Her husband is George Newton.
I have looked everywhere I can think of online and can not find either of them. It would seem the 2013 archived obituaries have been deleted.

There are two remaining options I can think of, either trying to identify which funeral home managed their interment and calling them, or finding an archived copy of a newspaper.

The closest largely circulated newspaper would probably be the Hamilton Spectator, however the only way to see archived copies of that would be at the main library in Hamilton, which, of course, is currently closed.

As a subscriber to the Spectator, I have online access to recent archives, incuding 2013.  Unfortunately, the recent archive does not go back to 1972.

NEWTON, Eira Ethyl (nee Morgan)

Passed away peacfully in Burlington on Sunday August 18, 2013 in her 90th year.  A native of BC, Eira was a perpetual joy to anyone who knew her.  She cultivated in her children a love for nature and the outdoors.  An avid dog lover, she volunteered at Animal Aid as well as the Red Cross.  Eira enjoyed bridge and tennis with friends, playing well into her 70s.  Forever positive, even after her stroke, she claimed to be a 'lie-down comedian'.  Eira will be dearly missed by her son George (Kathy Hunter), daughters Diane and Leslie Polci (Mike), grandsons Tom, Gerard and Alex (Emily) and great-grandchildren Rowan and Mitchell.  Eira is predeceased by her husband George and grandson Geoffrey Newton who sadly passed away earlier this year, both on the same day but miles apart.  The ashes of Eira, George Sr. and Geoffrey will be scattered at the cottage, Brynhaven.

Special thanks to Burloak Longterm Care and Brant Centre for the care and compassion shown to Eira  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA in Eira's name would be appreciated.

Sorry.  After I posted I realized that 1972 was the birth year of her grandson, not when he died.  However, I could find no obituary for George Newton in the week after his death 23 Jan 2013.
Thanks John! You are AWESOME!
John! How did you find this??!! I find the Spec so difficult to navigate lately.
Christine, I certainly agree that navigation is an issue.  In fact, I would say that as a whole it is one of the most unhelpful websites I regularly use.  If it wasn't my local paper I would avoid it entirely.  I have given up trying to get the search function to come up with a result.  However, it turns out that back issues are individually accessible through the date that shows up at the top of the issue.  So, looking at today's issue, above the page images you see the header "The Hamilton Spectator 15 June 2020" with a down arrow that is hard to see.  The down arrow brings up a monthly calendar.  You need to scroll back on the calendar by month to the relevant month - in this case to August 2013 - then examine each day's issue one by one.

Cheers
AH! I see now!! Thanks!! :)

The only thing I could find was the obituary for a grandson.

If you think she was buried in Burlington, you might try calling one of the funeral homes??
