Biography

Timothy Dunton (sic Dunten) was born 20 Aug 1715 in Sudbury, Middlesex Massachusetts Bay Colony. He is the son of John Dunton Jr. Dunton-120 and Sarah (Jeffords) Dunton Jeffords-94.[1]

Timothy and his wife Elizabeth were on Westport Island (near Wiscassset), by the 1740's. As I understand the story, they had like 13 children.

Timothy Dunton was born August 20, 1715 in Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He was a seaman, fisherman and farmer. He married Mary Elizabeth Smith on December 17, 1737 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Timothy was an early settler of Maine, going first to Woolwich and then to "Jeremy Squam" Island, now Westport. He was one of the signers of the petition to incorporate Wiscasset, Maine. He had nine children - Joseph, John, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Abner, Timothy, Daniel and Ruth. He died after 1805 in Westport.

Timothy and wife Elizabeth were on Westport Island (near Wiscasset), by the 1740s ... Dunton Family, Westport, Maine, descendent of Samuel and Timothy, Samuel Dunton was the 3rd child of his parents Timothy Dunton and Elizabeth. Timothy Dunton was born 20 Aug 1715, son of John and Sarah. The article I have reads as follows: "Timothy Dunton, probably born in Sudbury, MA, 20 Aug 1715, son of John and Sarah, was the first on the West side of Brookins Bay in Woolrich, then, on 'Jeremy Squam' Island, now Westport, about 1735. He was one of the petitioners for the incorporation of Wiscasset in 1748, those signing to have lived in the vicinity for fourteen or fifteen years. His wife's name was Elizabeth." It goes on to list their children, of which Samuel was the third born. No birthday is listed for Samuel.

There are no entries for any Duntons in the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire.

Timothy Dunton (sic Dunten) was born 20 Aug 1715 in Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He is the son of John Dunton and Sarah (Jeffords) Dunton. His brother Samuel was born to John and Sarah 14 Mar 1718/19 in Sudbury, Middlesex Massachusetts Bay Colony.[2]

Additional Research Notes

The 1810 U.S. Census shows a Timothy Dunton residing in Boothbay, Lincoln, Maine and a Timothy Dutton residing in Lincolnville, Hancock, Maine. Boothbay is in close proximity to Westport, Lincoln, Maine. There may be some conflation. Obviously there is an issue with the death date.[3][4] There are 2 death/burial records showing a Timothy Dunton. 1st. is Capt. Timothy Dunton died 2 Jul 1846 and buried in Lincolnville, Waldo, Maine.[5] He is Timothy Dunton (1776-1846), son of John Dunton and Abigail (Heal) Dunton. 2nd. is Timothy Dunton (married 22 Sep 1798 at Durham. spouse Phebe Gitchell of Durham) with no death date but buried in Edgecomb, Lincoln, Maine.[6] Not sure which Timothy Dunton that is.

Dunton-331 and Dunton-119 appear to represent the same person because: Appears Dunton-331 and Dunton-119 are the same person. Same birthdate/place. Father. John Dunton Jr (1686-) has a duplicate John Dunton Jr. (1686-) which is pending a merge. See additional research notes in regarding census and death/burial issues.

Dunton-119 and Dunton-331 are not ready to be merged because: Oops! Still needs research as I mentioned in previous merge proposal. Spouse Elizabeth's identity is still unclear and Timothy's death date is uncertain.

Timothy Dunton (1715-1805) and Timothy Dunton Sr. (1715-abt.1761) appear to be the same person. Research needs to verify date of death. Also, wife Elizabeth's identity and their children need research. I've created an unmerged match.
