Biography
Stuart "Stu" Bloom was born in New Jersey and grew up in Pennsylvania. He served as an enlisted man in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1976. He earned a bachelor's degree in management from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1976, and an MBA from Roosevelt in 1984. He worked as an IT consultant and technical training consultant from 1976 to 2002, and in 2002 he and his wife Andrea founded a weekly community newspaper, The Earlville Post, in Earlville, LaSalle County, Illinois, and then two other (no longer published) weekly papers in LaSalle County. He is currently (as of 2023) the editor and publisher of The Earlville Post.
Stu has been married twice and has two children from each marriage (one of the children from the first marriage died in infancy). In April 2021, Stu and Andrea moved from a home overlooking the Rock River outside of Edgerton, Wisconsin, to a house built in 1790 in the quaint village of Alstead, New Hampshire, and he is using the wonder of the Internet to continue to publish the Earlville newspaper remotely.
Stu got interested in genealogy when he was helping his mother sort through his father's papers after his father's death in 1990 and came across a family tree that this father had created. From then until the early 2000s, he spent a great deal of time documenting his parents' ancestries. He first worked mostly on the ancestry of his father, who was descended from 18th Century German, English, and Scotch-Irish immigrants to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, but after several years began concentrating mostly on his mother's New England ancestry (she was descended 100% from 17th Century immigrants to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine). The time commitments of publishing three newspapers then caused him to lay the genealogy aside for about 15 years. He resumed work on his mother's ancestry in 2017 and on his father's in 2023.

Do you know if you are connected to a Johann Peter Blum who migrated to New Jersey sometime between 1752 and 1754? I ask because I am a Bloom on my paternal great great grandmother's side descended from him. I tried to move through your family links, but you have connected this far back in time yet on your Bloom relations.
