William was born about 1770, details uncertain but likely in Berwickshire. William Gray married Margaret Fairgrieve in 1789 at Edinburgh; they settled in Berwickshire, with children born at Chirnside between 1791-1808.
Some records show William's occupation was mason but there is confusion... there appear to have been several William Grays living in the same area, around the same time. So, identification remains uncertain. No middle names to clarify. No record of William's death has yet been found. [1]
