Note on Birth Date

This profile - son born 1682 to Mary Crispe & attached to wife Jane Watkins (married in 1726) - had been in a proposed merge with Benjamin born 1698 to Mary Crispe (no other attachments). It is more likely they were nephew & uncle. So the other profile was changed to be son of Katherine and this one stayed son of Mary but the profile's birth years were swapped. They are now:

Benjamin Watkins b 1682 to Henry Watkins & Katherine Pride (b 1642)
Benjamin Watkins b 1698 to Henry Watkins & Mary Crispe (b 1662)

Note on Death Date

Death date is based on a will; Kay Haden thought the will may be for a different Benjamin: son of "brother" Thomas. I originally thought she must have meant his uncle (brother of his father), but I think that he may have had a brother Thomas as well, who died before his father's 1714/15 will (see the grandfather's profile for mention of a bequest to this Thomas and more of Kay's comments at the this changes page for Watkins-1004). However, if that Thomas also had a son Benjamin, I would have expected a bequest to him also. This Benjamin's uncle Thomas had a son named Benjamin, who is mentioned in his father's 1760 will (which argues that this 1753 death date is correctly attributed to this Benjamin, son of Henry and Mary).

Family

Benjamin Watkins, son of Henry and Mary Watkins,[1] married his cousin Jane ("Jean" in her father's will), daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Pride) Watkins.[2]
Benjamin and Jane Watkins had at least 10 children. Their daughter, Lydia, was born in 1736/7 and in 1754 married John Johnson[2] (1738-1827).[1]
Benjamin left a will dated 1753; Jane's was dated 1778.[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Benjamin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Benjamin:

Watkins-2571 and Watkins-1004 do not represent the same person because: instead of merging the two Benjamin Watkins (born 1682 & 1698), I changed one to be son of Henry & Katherine (Pride) Watkins - uncle/nephew rather than duplicates. Jane Watkins is still attached as wife of Henry (m 1726), son of Henry Watkins & Mary Crispe, who had previously had the 1682 birth. I swapped birth years, so the Uncle is b 1682 & son of Henry & Mary Crispe is b 1698. See the family group sheets for Henry Watkins & Mary Crispe and Henry Watkins & Katherine Pride.

If Benjamin who married his cousin Jane is son of Henry and Mary, it would be the Henry born around 1660 (Henry).

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6025/watkins.htm shows Benjamin (son of Henry & Mary) b/d 1698/1753 married Jane Watkins (daughter of Thomas Watkins and Elizabeth Pride, Thomas being the son of Henry and Katherine Pride)

And if Jane is daughter of Thomas, Benjamin being the son of Thomas definitely doesn't work!

http://oursoutherncousins.com/watkins.html has the 1753 date attached to Henry & Mary's grandson Benjamin, son of Thomas <sigh>. So... I guess there was a son Thomas, but according to that site's info, son Thomas was apparently alive in 1714/15:

III. HENRY WATKINS (1660-1714) m. 1680 Mary -----

IV. THOMAS WATKINS (1691-1760. wife unknown

V. BENJAMIN WATKINS ( __ - WILL 1753); married Jane Watkins (___-will 1778)
