Biography

Emily was born in Guildford Surrey before 23 February 1862 which is the date of her christening in Stoke (Guildford). She is the daughter of George Stock and Ann Nichols.

At the time of the 1881 census, at age 19, Emily is residing in the Emma Day household in Farnham Surrey where she is working as a general servant.

On 11 January 1890 at St Peter & St Paul Church Godalming Surrey, Emily married Joseph Matthew Felstead, a postman. They became the parents of a daughter, Annie, born in 1891 and a son, Joseph, born in 1894 but who died at about age 1.

Emily died in March 1924 in Guildford at age 62. She is interred at Eashing Cemetery Godalming. Husband Joseph survived until 1927.

Research Note

We have some uncertainty with regard to Emily's birth location. We have recorded it as Guildford, which is where her birth is registered. However, at least one census record shows Farnham as her place of birth, and a number of other census records indicate birth in London England. Take your pick!
