George was born in 1869 in Mullaghdoo, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of Thomas Stewart and Agnes Kane. The birth was registered by Rachel Blair of Mullaghdoo who was present at the birth.[1]
In 1896 George, a sailor, married Agnes Davison in 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church. The witnesses were Mary Stewart and Sarah Davidson.[2]
During the 1901 Census of Ireland, George was likely at sea. Agnes was residing in a house 42 in Mullaghdoo (Islandmagee, Antrim) with their first two children William John, aged 1 year and Albert aged 3 months. The head of the household was George's grandmother Jane Kane, widow, aged 80.[3][4]
George was likely away at sea again during the 1911 Census of Ireland. His wife Agnes was residing in a house 37 in Mullaghdoo (Island Magee, Antrim) during the 1911 Census of Ireland with 3 out of their 4 children; Albert aged 10, Georgina, aged 8 and Thomas, aged 5. Their son William John was in a house 20 in Mullaghdoo with his grandmother. [5][6]
George passed away on May 26th, 1928 aged 58 years. [7]He left a will, and administration was granted to Agnes Stewart, his widow.[8] He is interred in the Stewart Family Plot in Ballykeel Graveyard, Islandmagee.[9]

Erected by Agnes Stewart in memory of her beloved husband Thomas Stewart who died in Rio de Janeiro 27th March 1873 aged 28 years. Also of her son William John who died in Accra, West Africa, 3rd April 1912 aged 40 years. The above-named Agnes Stewart died 17th Oct. 1916 aged 74 years. Also her grandson Albert D. Stewart who was lost at sea through the torpedoing of the S.S. Bray Head on March 14th 1916 aged 16 years. And her son George Stewart who died 26th May 1928 aged 58 years. His wife Agnes died 26th September 1950.
