Biography

Mary Shepherd was born 26 Jul 1867 in Echt, the daughter of William Fowler Shepherd and Mary Morgan. Mary, a 22 year old Domestic Servant, married George Abel, a 25 year old Blacksmith Journeyman, on 16 Nov 1889 in the Mains of Linton in Cluny, Mary's family's residence. Witnesses were Robert Shepherd and Georgina Dickson.
In the 1891 census, George, a Blacksmith, and Mary are living at Little Woodside in Echt with their daughter Barbara J, age 1. In the 1901 census, George and Mary are living at the Mennecht Cottage in Echt with their children Barbara J, George, William S, Mary and Robert J. They also have several boarders. In the 1911 census, George and Mary are living at South Monecht Cottage with their children Mary and Robert.
Husband George died in 1919 at the Woodbank Cottage in Cults, East Peterculter. Mary died 16 Jun 1947 in Forfar, age 70. Both George and Mary are buried in the Echt Kirkyard.
