Biography

Adah Emilie Parker (married names Adams, then Sherwood) was born in South Yarra, Victoria, Australia in 1866, the daughter of Mary Ann (Clifford) Parker and Thomas James Parker.[1]

She was a pianist and singer, and was a friend of Dame Nellie Melba.[2]

She married Alexander James Adams in Victoria, Australia on 4 February 1888.[3] Their four children (all sons) were born in Victoria:

Alexander died in 1894.[8]

Adah married again, on 5 June 1900, to Guy Sherwood.[9][10]

On hearing that her third son Harold was missing in action in World War One, Adah was said to have "smashed every piece" of her German Meissen porcelain collection.[11]

Adah died in January 1924 aboard the steamer Marella, near the port of Darwin, Northern Territory.[12][13][14]
