Alexander James Adams was born around 1857, the son of Arthur Adams, in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.^[1][2]

He married Adah Emilie Parker in 1888 in Victoria, Australia.^[3] Their four children (all sons) were born in Victoria:

• Arthur Parker Adams (1889–1955).^[4]
• Clifford Burrell Adams (1890–1909)^[5]
• Valantyne Harold Adams (1892–1917)^[6]
• Athol Gladwyn Adams (1894–1917)^[7]

Alexander died on 18 April 1894 in Kew, Victoria, aged 37 years.^[1][8]
