Pulteney Murray was born in Ireland.

Pulteney Murray was born 9 July 1807. He was the son of James Patrick Murray and Elizabeth Rushworth.

He was baptised on 20 December 1809 at Freshwater, Isle of Wight, Hampshire[1].

He gained the rank of Captain in the 36th Regiment.

In 1842 Captain Pulteney Murray, of Athlone, late of the 36th Regiment, was appointed sub-inspector of constabulary, and was to be stationed at Armagh.

On 23 May 1849 he married Jane Mackenny (the daughter of J. Mackenny) in Omagh Church, Drumragh, Omagh, Ireland[2].

Newry Telegraph 05 June 1849, page 3:
On the 23d ult., in Omagh Church, by the Rev. A. E. Aucbinleck, Captain Pulteney Murray, late of the 36th Regiment, and eldest surviving son of the late Major-General J. P. Murray, C.B., to Jane, third daughter of J. McKenny, Esq., of Omagh.[3]

They had one son, Pulteney Henry Murray, born 17 November 1849. Sadly his wife died on 19 October 1851.

After his wife's death, his son was brought up by his married sister Catherine Anne O'Donnell, who was childless.

He married, secondly, Elizabeth Richards (the daughter of Edward Richards) on about 19 June 1856 in Ireland[4].

In 1860, Captain Pulteney Murray (late 36th Regt.), Sub- Inspector at Maryborough, was transferred, at his own request, to the district of Spiddal, County Galway.

He passed away in 1875.
