Dec 1846 Crown Patent, S ½ Lot 11, Conc. 1 (100 acres) Seneca Twp. Haldimand County^[2]

Abt 1849: Husband William Macklem. Wife Eve Schell. Marriage Abt 1849, , Ontario, Canada.^[3]

1851: Census did not survive.

1861: Church of England, married, living with his wife and 9 children (includes Lyman Cline and Matilda Cline listed as Macklems). Seneca, Haldimand, Canada West.^[4]

1871: Presbyterian, Irish origin, living with his wife and 5 children. Tilbury West, Essex, Ontario, Canada.^[3]

1881: Farmer living with his wife. Tilbury, Essex, Ontario, Canada.^[5]

1888: He passed away on 21 Jan 1888 in Essex, Ontario, Canada.^[1] He was originally buried in the Macklem Family Cemetery on the land he owned. His remains were relocated to McDowell Cemetery once it opened.

Research Notes

So far no records have been found to prove who are the parents of this William Macklem. DNA connections with a number of family members cause us to believe his grandparents were William Macklem and Ann Hastings. A brother of Liza (Macklem) Gervais has done a yDNA test and his results are R-BY32085 which puts the origin of this branch of Macklem's in Scotland.

Each of the currently known sons of that couple, with the exception of Thomas Adam Macklem, had sons named William who were still living at the time this William Macklem was born, so I believe there is a good chance that Thomas and his wife Catherine Wideman are William's parents. There is one other possibility currently being considered for William's parents: 'Elder' John Macklem and his wife Marie Magdelena Wide had a son John Macklem in 1823, with no other information provided in the Macklem Family book^[6] Could that 'John' have been this William Macklem?
