Biography

William Harold Macklem^[1] was born March 26, 1822 in Whitchurch, York, Upper Canada (Ontario). His parents are James William Macklem and Ann Lundy (aka Lemley).^[2][3]

He married his first wife Margaret Ann Finnie December 26, 1848 in Markham, York, Ontario.^[4] Their children are

2. Walter P. Macklem
3. Marshall Macklem
4. Ellen M. Macklem

He immigrated from Canada to the United States about 1851-1853^[5]

On 20 Feb 1860, he married Elizabeth "Eliza" Horner in Sanilac County, Michigan.^[6] Their children are:

On 26 Jul 1870, he was living in Sanilac County, Michigan with his second wife and eight children.^[8]

On 11 Jun 1880 he was living in Worth, Sanilac County, Michigan with his second wife and ten of their children.^[9]

On 5 Jun 1900 he was living in Sanilac County Michigan with his wife, three of their sons, and grandson Harold Hennigar (whose mother is Matilda).^[10]

He died December 16, 1904 in Sanilac County, Michigan.^[2] He is buried in Ridge Cemetery, Applegate, Sanilac County, Michigan.^[11]

Research Note

The purported marriage of William to Betsy Avery (as his second wife) about 1857 is highly suspect and probably didn't happen. This was reported in the Macklem book, page 17.^[3] William's first wife, Margaret Finnie, probably died in childbirth in March 1858.^[12] Less than two years later, he married Eliza.^[6] No intervening marriage was found using an online search.
