Thomas Jordan I[1]
Thomas Jordan (also recorded as Jorden) b. in England in say 1599, came to America in the ship "Diana" in 1623 at the age of 24 according to Hotten who lists him as an inhabitant of Virginia as of 16 Feb 1623 (the date of his listing).[2][3] His possible father Samuel is believed to have sailed to the Americas in 1609 leaving Thomas and his siblings behind in England.[4]
From the "Muster (census) of the Inhabitants of Pasbehays & the Maine taken the 30th of January 1624 belonging to the corporation of James Citty" he is listed under "Muster of the Governor's Men at Pasbehaighs...Thomas Jorden aged 24 came in the Diana."[2] Governor's Men refers to Governor Yardley but whether or not he was a soldier is unknown.
He was a member of the council or House of Burgesses from Isle of Wight County in 1629 and 1632.[3][5][6] On 2 Jul 1635 he was granted 900 acres known as the "Great Indian Field Neck" near the head of Warrasquioacke River, beginning at the western side of an old Indian town.[3] This was near the head of Pagan River. He was granted this land by Sir John Harvey, Knight, for transporting 18 persons. One branch of the Jordan family still possessed this grant until 1840. [7][8][6]
He followed the Puritan trek to Nansemond as he patented land there soon after receiving his Isle of Wight grant.[6]
He married Lucy Corker (daughter of Capt William Corker of Surry County, Virginia and his wife Lucy White Corker).[4]
Boddie in his Southside Virginia Families[9] gives two children by first wife Jane (Browne) Spencer with a marriage date of "about 1679":
There is disagreement among well-respected researchers on the children of Thomas and Lucy:
Thomas' date of death is unknown but estimated to be about 1688, however, some researchers place his death as early as 1644.
There are obvious date issues with the upstream profile dates both in the Jordan and Corker families even though the documentation on the families taken separately appears to be approximately correct. These are being researched as of Feb 2020. - T Stanton
Contrary information on maiden name for marriage to Corker:
His land grant of 1624 was for land that the Virginia Company had given his father, Samuel, but the father had never taken out the patent on the tract.
Is the above unsourced comment in reference to the following? Patent Books Land Patent 1620 "Samuel Jordan ... see Land Book VIII, p 125; referred to in JCGC, Sept 12, 1625, p 76" "Journal of the Council and General Court". Jordan grant (listed as a footnote in v 1) listed again in v 2, from Patent Book 8 (dated 1690). This seems to be copied from some earlier record, since the land transaction took place in 1620. Cited in Nugent, Nell Marion. Cavaliers and Pioneers: Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants, Volume One: 1623-1666, Richmond: Virginia State Library, 1992. • Patent Books 1-5.

His Father Samuel Jordan and his mother Frances Baker had the following children in England Note: there is no documentation of Samuel Jordan ever marrying someone named Frances Baker. Frances Baker is fictional.):

Cheers, Liz
Lastly, for my own notes (and leaving Samuel out of the equation) is it still in agreement that this Thomas Jordan was a "Sr", he married a Lucy Corker and they had a son, Thomas Jordan Jr (m. Margaret Brasseur)? Those are 9th and 10th great grandparents of mine- or so I had been told- and I want to make sure my tree here is as detailed as in other places. Cheers! The names of his mother and wife are not known, however, his mother was certainly not the Cicely who married Samual Jordan.
All this is in the very reputable book Adventurers of Purse and Person, 4th edn. Vol 2 pp 363-365.
The profile needs correction.
