Biography

Jane was born about 1640.

William and Mary (Browne) Brown's children were:

  1. Jane Browne (m. 1st., Robert Spencer and 2nd., Thomas Jordan) 1657–1685
  2. William Browne, Jr. (m. Jane Meriwether) 1671 – unknown

From Boddie "Southside Virginia Families" Vol 1:170. Thomas Jordan had previously married about 1679 Mrs Jane Browne Spencer, widow of Capt Robert Spencer, and oldest child of Col Wm Browne. They had Jane Jordan and Mary Jordan who married Francis Sowerby (V.H.G. -337). Thomas Jordan died in 1685. His administrators were James Jordan and Col Wm Browne. Lucy (Corker) Jordan married secondly Wm Rose Jr. (V.H.G. 307).[1]

Was the issue of merging Browne-2846 with this profile, Browne-3835 resolved? Someone was going to visit the Library of Virginia in 2020 to research it . . .

Also, should Priscilla Browne-856 Jordan be merged with Priscilla Brown-61305 Jordan ? There is a third Priscilla Browne-2765 Jordan who was detached from William Browne's profile.

Was the issue of merging Browne-2846 with this profile, Browne-3835 resolved? Someone was going to visit the Library of Virginia in 2020 to research it . . . This has not been resolved. The library visit (don't even recall who offered) did not happen due to a virus.

I'll have a look at the Priscilla profiles but won't have time before the weekend.

Browne-2846 and Browne-3835 are not ready to be merged because: These profiles are not yet ready to be merged. The husband Thomas Jordan attached to each profile is not currently the same Thomas Jordan -- one is the son of William and the other the son of Arthur. The husband and upstream profiles need to be resolved prior to merge. I don't think this will ever get resolved because there's huge disagreement over which man was the father of Thomas. Didn't we go through this recently with this potential merge? Regardless, the intent is to merge the identical Thomas Jordan's. My suggestion would be to remove the parents of both, merge them and include a good note to detail what is known about the possibility of either William or Arthur Jordan being the father of Thomas.

I don't recall a recent merge effort on this but I only came back to issues in these families in the last couple of weeks. Next week one of the Virginia Project coordinators will be able to check documents, which are not found online, at Library of Virginia and this will hopefully shed some new light. This is part of a larger effort to rectify issues in both the Jordan and Corker lineages. Taken separately they appear generally correct (though any number of merges remain to be completed) however where the families intersect by marriage there are significant date discrepancies -- a large enough discrepancy to indicate some piece of the puzzle is missing or is incorrect.
