Biography

Ed Holt's great grandson Rex Harmon wrote:

'Ed' is the oldest son of Harvey Washington Holt (1845-1924) and Permelia Ann Leach (1843-1895). Ed married Malinda Elizabeth "Lizzy" Maupin (1871-1928) on October 18, 1893 and together they had 6 children. Ed farmed land adjacent to this cemetery but was better known as the owner of a steam powered tractor that he shared with neighbors for harvest and other tasks, like milling lumber for a church that once stood immediately north of this cemetery. (Midway Cemetery, Montgomery County, Missouri) - Ed and Malinda were 2nd cousins and are my G-Grandparents.[1]

The 1870 Census[2] shows him at age 3 in the home of his parents in Third Creek Township, Gasconade County, Missouri.

The 1880 Census[3] shows him at age 13 in the home of his parents in Canaan Township, Gasconade County, Missouri.

He married his second cousin, Malinda Elizabeth Maupin on 8 Oct 1893 in Montgomery County, Missouri.[4] Their children:

  2. Maude (Holt) Jones
  3. Cora (Holt) Dillion
  4. John Holt
  5. Wilmer Holt
  6. Harold Holt

The 1900 Census[5] shows him at age 34 with his wife, three daughters, and his younger brother George in Prairie Township, Montgomery County, Missouri.

The 1910 Census[6] shows him at age 43 with his wife and five children in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, Missouri.

The 1920 Census[7] shows him at age 53 with his wife and youngest five children in Prairie Township, Montgomery County, Missouri.

The 1930 Census[8] shows him at age 63, widowed, with one son in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, Missouri. He is a farmer on a general farm.

Ed died on 25 Mar 1937 in Montgomery County, Missouri,[9] and is buried at the Midway Cemetery, Montgomery County, Missouri.[1]

Ed was my grandmother's father. She (Cora) told me that when she and her siblings were teenagers, they would want to stay up late on a Saturday night playing cards. Ed told them, "You can stay up as late as you wish, but remember you are going to church on Sunday morning anyway!"
