Stephen Hobson was born 5 Mar 1742 in Frederick County, Virginia.[1] He married Deborah Hinshaw [Marshall?] 18 May 1786 in Alamance, North Carolina.[2] Census records show him living in Chatham, North Carolina 1790[3], 1800[4] and 1810.[5]
He passed away in 1825. [6][7][8] [There is currently no documentary evidence of this date of death. The date of death is seen as Jan or Feb 1775 in multiple places but without sources and this date conflicts with his known marriages.]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Stephen by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Stephen:
Hobson-493 and Hobson-124 appear to represent the same person because: There is no known son of George Hobson Sr. Sr's will states Stephen is his grandson. Hobson-493 which is unsourced should be merged into Hobson-124 retaining only the data and parents of Hobson-124.
There is a pending merge with Hobson-124 which is a lower number. I have researched this throughly in Hinshaw's Quaker Encyclopedia and the information on profile 173 is the most correct. I am unconcern and do not feel that I have to be a profile manager in the final profile. I just want accuracy. Stephen's spouse Ann Barnes Hobson is an ancestor and the daughter of my direct immigrant and I want to clean up his family where possible.
Hobson-173 and Hobson-124 appear to represent the same person because: Hobson-173 and Hobson-124 are duplicates. Hobson-173 has no Profile Manager. I hesitate to adopt him since we share no blood relationship, without some direction by an arborist. I am the 4th great nephew of his first wife, Anne Barnes Hobson [Barnes-1102]. I changed the birth year, not the month and day by one year to reflect the data in Hinshaws, American Quaker Encyclopedia, page 356. 173, has more of the data cited on page 356. The profile states that 173 was buried at Rocky River Cemetery. His first wife was the first to be buried there and this is confirmed by Hinshaw. Hinshaw in his page 356, Cane Creek Monthly Meeting list the following children for Anne and Stephen: Stephen, George, David, Anne, Silas and John. It also lists two other wives of Hobson-173 and children by them. 173s last wife was also buried at Rocky River.
Hobson-1073 appears to be a duplicate as well but there are subtle differences.
I made myself the Profile Manager of Hobson-173 because his data is more complete and is substantiated by an original source (Hinshaw). I have no problem removing myself as PM after the merge. After this is resolved, I will evaluate Hobson-1073.
