Biography

Anne was a Friend (Quaker)
This profile is part of the Siler City, North Carolina One Place Study.

Anne Barnes was born 17 May 1744 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.[1][2]

Anne was married to Stephen Hobson and they had the following children:[3]

i. Stephen Hobson, b. 15 February 1763 in Chatham County, NC
ii. George Hobson, b. 27 Februay 1765 in Chatham County, NC
iii. David Hobson, b. 11 April 1767 in Chatham County, NC
iv. Anne (Hobson) Stout, b. 11 July 1769 in Chatham County, NC
v. Silas Hobson, b. 13 February 1772 in Chatham County, NC
vi. John Hobson, b. 28 October 1774 in Chatham County, NC

Stephen remarried twice more and had eight additional children.[3]

Anne's death date is frequently given as 1 Mar 1775 and is seen as this in Hinshaw.[3] However, her grave marker lists her as living 88 years placing her date of death in 1832 (which may controvert the note below about her being the first burial at Rocky River MM).

  • Ann was the first burial at the Rocky River MM (Quaker) Cemetery. Sources: LDS ancestral files provided by family relation Richard Dolan, and source 91.

This is a duplicate with Barnes-1102. There has been an ongoing controversy over the correct mother for some time. They should be merged and efforts made to resolve the other issue.
