Biography

Birth

Gilbert Hinds was born at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), on 12 Jan 1803, the son of Ebenezer Hinds and Anna (Hathaway) Hinds.^[1]

Marriages

1. Gilbert Hinds married Anne Mason Hathaway.^[2] Their only known child was born at Freetown, Massachusetts, on 27 Oct 1839.^[3]
2. Gilbert Hinds married Hannah B. (Allen) Hoard.^[2] No record of the marriage has been found; it took place between 2 May 1848, when Gilbert's first wife died,^[4] and 6 Aug 1850, when Gilbert and Hannah B. Hinds were enumerated in the 1850 Census at Middleborough, Massachusetts.^[5]

Children

Gilbert Hinds was the father of the following children. Isaac was a son of Anne (Hathaway) Hinds and was born at Freetown, Massachusetts,^[3] and Hannah and Philena were daughters of Hannah (Allen) Hinds, were born at Livermore, Maine,^[6] and they died within less that three weeks of each other in the summer of 1862.^[2] Also see the Research Note below.

Death

Gilbert Hinds died at Portland, Maine, on 7 Feb 1889, with his age at his death recorded as 86 years, 26 days,^[7] He was buried at the Waters Hill Cemetery in Livermore, Maine.^[8]

Research Note

The 1899 Hinds genealogy gives the two children born at Livermore different names, Gilberette and Fannie;^[9] the names shown above are as recorded in the vital records of Livermore^[6] and as shown in the 1928 history of Livermore.^[2] Hannah's middle name is given as Gilberetta on the Hinds family gravestone.^[8]Photo of gravestone of the Hinds family (Find A Grave: Memorial #196800771).
