Biography

Bethiah was born in 1719, the daughter of Thomas Harlock. Bethiah married Elijah Smith in 1739; she passed away in 1803.

Bethiah married Elijah Smith, son of John & Hannah (Pease) Smith, on 21 Jun 1739 at Edgartown, Dukes, MA - their children were Lydia, Harlock, Elizabeth, Elijah, Pilip. Jeremiah, William, Dedidah, Mary, David, Nathan & Bethia

Research note: Banks ([1]) lists Bethiah in the group of children born to Thomas and second wife Sarah (Marchant) Harlock; however, this part of his list includes children born from 1719 (Bethiah) through about 1730. As Sarah Marchant was born in 1661, this implies her bearing children between age 58 and 69. It seems more likely that these were offspring of Thomas's third marriage, to Sarah Stewart, b. 1668. Note however that Sarah herself would have been over 50, and at the birth of the last child, about 60. Was there a fourth marriage, or is there a serious question about the identification of (any of) Thomas's spouse(s)?
