Tina was born 3 October 1898, in southern Missouri. On her Social Security card application she listed her place of birth as Aldrich (in Polk County), Missouri. I do not know if she was born there, or on a family farm. Aldrich may just have been a town close to a family farm? She was the daughter of Samuel Grisham and Hannah Holman. Tina (name pronounced like "tie-nuh" rather than "tee-nuh") went to high school in Walnut Grove, Greene County, Missouri. She went to secretarial school and/or business school to become a secretary, and took a job in Kansas City, Missouri. She was working as secretary for an executive with the Montgomery Ward department store/mail order company when she met (William) Marlow Stevenson. They married in Independence, Missouri. Marlow worked for the American Radiator Company in the Kansas City area, and then relocated to the American Radiator Company's plant in Litchfield, Montgomery County, Illinois, where he was a labor foreman. Tina's and Marlow's three children were born in Litchfield. Marlow died young, of tubercular kidney disease. Tina moved to be near her family in southeastern South Dakota, and remained in that area for many years. Her sister Claudia, Claudia's husband Grover Christensen, and Grover's family were of great help to Tina and her children. She worked for the K and K company in one of their stores in Canton, and then in Beresford. She worked as a clothing buyer, a corsetier (fitting ladies' corsets), a saleslady, and scrubbed the floors. When she retired, she moved south to be near her daughters Hannah and Wilma (Stevenson) Chiasson, in Chackbay, Lafourche Parish, Lousiana. She passed away on Palm Sunday, 3 April 1977, and rests in the cemetery of Our Lady of Prompt Succor church, near her daughters and their husbands. There is a slight mistake on her birthday listed on the burial vault, as Tina did not want her husband to know she was a year older than he was. She often said she was born in 1899, rather than 1898, but census records confirm her birth year as 1898. The kind genealogists in Polk County, Missouri told me it was rare to find birth certificates from the time of her birth filed with the county, and that church records were more common. I understand that Tina's family were Baptists, but I have not seen church records for them yet. [1] This profile is a collaborative work-in-progress. Can you contribute information or sources?
