Biography

Hannah Lois Stevenson was born 11 February 1926 in Litchfield, Montgomery County, Illinois. She was the eldest child of Marlow Stevenson and Tina Grisham and named after both her grandmothers, Hannah Holman Grisham and Lois Peterson Stevenson. After her father's early death in 1932, her mother moved the family to southeastern South Dakota, to be near Tina's parents, sister, and brother. Hannah attended Beresford High School, in Beresford, South Dakota. She met Mr. Russell Adam Chiasson during World War II, when they both attended a dance in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They wrote to each other when apart, and when Russell got out of the service, he went to see Hannah. She had become engaged to someone else, but broke the engagement when Russell returned. Hannah moved down to Louisiana with Russell and they were married at Russell's church, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, in Chackbay, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. They lived in New Orleans for a time, then returned to Chackbay. She rests in the cemetery of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, in Chackbay/Thibodaux, Louisiana, where her husband, her mother, her sister, and many in-laws rest. Hannah was loved by all who knew her.
