Biography

Martha (Dillion) McRorie is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Martha was born in 1932 in Middletown, Missouri to John E. Dillion and Cora I. (Holt) Dillion.

The 1940 Census is the first to include Martha. She is shown as a seven year old girl in the household of her parents on the farm in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri,[1] a small farming community just outside of Middletown, Missouri, which is just over the county line, in Montgomery County.

Martha Ann and Fern Wortman (Thomas) who was born in the same month, were close friends in addition to being second cousins. They attended school together all the way up through High School in Wellsville, Missouri.

The 1950 Census[2] shows her at age 17 in the home of her parents in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri.

USNA Class of 1952 Pin

"Marty" met Chester E. McRorie in the summer of 1951 while he was visiting his sister who lived on the farm next door. He gave her his Naval Academy Class Pin. Marty & Chet married on 21 June 1953, in Middletown, a marriage that lasted until her death, over 63 years later.

In 1960 she completed her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Missouri.[3] She earned her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Denver and she received the WAETAG (Washington Association of Educators of the Talented and Gifted) 1998 Outstanding Teacher Award.[4]

She and Chet raised three children, of whom she was quite proud and pleased. When they did something she was pleased with, she would often look at them and say "Your mother raised you right!"[5]

She died in 2016 in Bremerton, Washington.[6] [7]
