Biography

Roll of Honor
George Dees Died in Military Service during the United States Civil War.
The son of Mark Dees and Lydia (Yoakum) Dees, George Dees was born in Tippah County, Mississippi in 1828.[citation needed] He married Martha (Stewart) Dees, marrying around 1849 and having ten known children together. They made their home in Tippah County.[1][2]
George Dees served in the United States Civil War.

Mustered out: 12 Apr 1863

Aug-Oct 1862 - Captured at Hatchie River actions 8 Oct 1862 - Paroled
Feb-Apr 1863 - Died at home[3]

War broke out and George enlisted, enlisting in the 7th Mississippi Cavalry at Orizaba, Mississippi on August 1, 1862.[4] He was captured at the Hatchie River action on October 8, 1862, and paroled. He died at his home on April 12, 1863.[5] He is buried at Dees Cemetery in Ripley, Mississippi.[6]
