Biography

Thomas Cobb, born 01 June 1683 at Barnstable, the son of Samuel. He married Rachel Stone of Sudbury on 01 January 1710.^[1] He died at Barnstable aged near 60 on 14 Oct 1742, and his wife died there 25 January 1746/7 aged over 60. They are buried in the cemetery on Cobb's Hill. His will was dated 01 Oct 1742, names wife Rachel, five sons Nathaniel, Matthew, David, Henery and Ebenezer, grandson Thomas Cob, daughters Abigail Sturgis, Elizabeth Lewis, Eunice and Mary Cobb. Also son Samuel, aunt Mehetable Cobb, mentions cousin Benj. Cobb with whom he held land in partnership. Sons Nathaniel & David Cobb to be executors, witnesses John, Joseph & Thankfull Gorham. Will presented for probate 4 November 1742. His wife Rachel Cobb's will was dated 26 Dec 1744 at Barnstable. Named sons Nathaniel, Samuell, Mathew, DAvid, Henry, Ebenezer, daughters Elizabeth Lewis, Abigail Sturgis, Eunice & Mary. Executor Decon Robert Davis, witnesses Jane Davis, Abigail Sturgis, Jane Bacon. Probated 11 Feb 1746.^[2]

Eunice, daughter of Thomas and Rachel, was baptized Feb. 23, 1728/9.

Probate

The will of Thomas Cobb of Barnstable was dated 1 October 1742 and proved on 4 November 1742 in Barnstable. He mentioned his wife Rachel, and his children, Nathaniel Cobb (executor), Matthew Cobb, David Cobb (executor), Henry Cobb, Ebenezer Cobb, Abigail Sturgis, Eunice Cobb, Mary Cobb, Samuel Cobb, and his grandson, Thomas Cobb, and his cousin, Benjamin Cobb. His inventory was taken on 10 November 1742 in Barnstable.^[3]

In 1744, his real estate was divided between his sons, Nathaniel, Matthew, David, Henry, and Ebenezer.^[4]
