I always say that I come from a "mixed" marriage - my father's family arrived to the US early to the south - Virginia Colony - and then migrated to and stayed in Chatham County, North Carolina; and my mother's side came early aboard the Mayflower (among many other ships) and as part of the Palatine Migration and moved in the Northeast, founding Danbury and Hartford, Connecticut before settling in Oneida County, New York. And yet they somehow managed to share a common ancestor 12 generations back.
For myself, since my father was a career Army guy, I moved many times in my youth and ended up in Florida for my young adulthood and now have lived in Washington State for the last 20 years. I have traveled to every state except New Mexico... need to check that one off.
I was gifted (okay, begged and copied) genealogies and family history from both my Grandmothers and have long been fascinated by the subject. I have become just a little obsessed with getting all of the relations entered in and connected to the larger world tree here.
I love the idea of one (free!) tree for the whole world that is accessible to all and WITH (correct) SOURCES!Featured Eurovision connections: Kathleen is 33 degrees from Agnetha Fältskog, 26 degrees from Anni-Frid Synni Reuß, 24 degrees from Corry Brokken, 15 degrees from Céline Dion, 26 degrees from Françoise Dorin, 28 degrees from France Gall, 27 degrees from Lulu Kennedy-Cairns, 26 degrees from Lill-Babs Svensson, 20 degrees from Olivia Newton-John, 33 degrees from Henriette Nanette Paërl, 34 degrees from Annie Schmidt and 18 degrees from Moira Kennedy on our single family tree. I noticed you removed the linked parents of my 4th great-grandmother Rebecca (Gortner) Gravely (1797-1881). I welcome contributions to all open profiles I manage, however, when making corrections in particular to linked relationships, I ask that sources be provided or cited. I did not see any sources added or discussed or comments made in association with these changes. Could you please go back and provide whatever information you referred to and what your reasoning is as to why this relationship was incorrect? If it’s simply due to the lack of sources, you should really still put in a research note about this, if for no other reason than many other trees have this relationship. I am also curious as to what led you to this corner of the tree. Thank you for your contributions, Nathan
I just poked around a bit and see that on Family Search, Rebecca is a child of John Jacob Gortner, a son of George David Gortner, who is a brother to the removed Jacob. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LH5R-NZ3 John Jacob does not have a profile on Wikitree yet but George David is Gordner-61.
This is the excellent Gortner/Cortner source I have been reading lately: Cortner, Neal N. A window to the past : a family history of Peter Gortner-Cotner, 1704-1753 and his descendants : including Painter, Clapp, Traylor, McCool, Chunn, Ford, Hoffmann, Meadors & many others https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/124284-a-window-to-the-past-a-family-history-of-peter-gortner-cotner-1704-1753-and-his-descendents-including-painter-clapp-traylor-mccool-chunn-ford-foffmann-meadors-many-others?offset=17

Even without having adding a comment I appreciate you removing the incorrect info, we all get ahead of ourselves in editing sometimes; and especially for promptly replying with all this info. With WikiTree and other sites I’ve learned so much about roots I never thought would have been possible.
Have at it, Nathan, as you like... I looked you up and see that we are distant cousins on my mother's side in NY (a Palatine).
I was surprised when I clicked on your thumbnail and got a big picture...Last time I did that it didn't do that :-) Marlene
Thank you for your work on WikiTree!

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.
Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up GEDCOM biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!
Debi
PS If the profile needs GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Our common ancestor is Stewart-39096 :)
A couple of fundamental things I have learned is that of our 120 ancestors, that make up our individual DNA, some we won’t inherit any from. For example, two other matches of the same shared relative yielded no shared DNA between us. That doesn’t necessarily mean we aren’t related or share ancestors, it just means we didn’t inherit the same SNPs of DNA.
In our case, we share a little more than what’s average for our genetic distance, which is good since it helps with DNA confirmation. 😎👍
Welcome to the Southern Pioneers project! We are a subproject of United States History. I have added the project badge for you. Be sure to check out our project page. Let me know if you need any help.

Congratulations on being Pre-1700 certified.
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordination is essential. Thanks for joining the GERMANY Project.

It has been a few weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Disasters (and Titanic) Project and as we haven't heard from you, we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member.
We understand that interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. If this is the case for you, please let us know.
If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.
Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it.
Regards Joan
On behalf of the Disasters (and Titanic) Project Leaders we are carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work in the past.
We have recently made a lot of changes. We are changing the focus of the project to include more about people involved in disasters and the effect it had on them and their families. We have divided the project into teams. Please have a look https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Disasters
Please let me know, by comment on my profile or a private message, whether you are still active in the project, and which team(s) you would like to work with. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed?
We're looking forward to hearing back from you,
Joan and Lizzie
Im checking in with all Titanic Project Members to introduce myself and see how you are and what you are working on. Im Lizzie and Im honoured to be looking after the project in the role of coordinator. Please let me know what you are working on and if you need anything from me.
Looking forward to moving the project forward with you
Lizzie
This is just a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Any questions? Any issues?
Feel free to contact me via my profile page. I am happy to help!
You have been a member about a week. How is it going so far. Were the pages of the How-Tos helpful or did they leave you with questions?
When you click the green tags on your profile page, you can see if other members are following that tag. Add locations, Country, County or town the more tags you add the more links to community & research options. Add MAYFLOWER to link to other descendants and project
If you get a "Page Not Found" error when you click the link, you can find a working version in the public comments on your profile.
Any problems or queries just click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message.

Thank you for volunteering, we are glad that you joined us. You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can now start adding your family.
For helpful tips to get you on your way, please start with our New Member How-To pages .
I first started out as a rookie, just working on my immediate family members. But as I found more connections I got better at working on my tree. I think you will enjoy the experience once you get comfortable being here. I know I have! Note: If the link doesn't work in your email, you can find them in the public comments on your profile page. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.
